Histori

Alan Stillman opens T.G.I. Restaurant Friday 1965 in New York. She lives in a neighborhood with many airline attendants, fashion models, secretaries, and other young people who are single on the East Side of Manhattan near Queensboro Bridge, and hope that opening a bar will help her meet women. At the time, Stillman's choice to socialize was a non-public cocktail party or a "beer place of the people" normally not visited by women; he recalled that "there is no public place for people between, say, twenty-three to thirty-seven, to meet." He tried to create a comfortable cocktail party atmosphere in public despite having no experience in the restaurant business.

With $ 5,000 of his own money and $ 5,000 borrowed from his mother, Stillman bought a bar he frequented, The Good Tavern on the corner of 63rd Street and First Avenue, and named it T.G.I. Friday after the phrase "Thank God! It's Friday!" from his years at Bucknell University. The new restaurant, which opened on March 15, 1965, serves American standard cuisine, bar food and alcoholic beverages, but emphasizes quality and food preparation. The exterior features red and white striped curtains and blue paint, Gay Nineties interior including fake Tiffany lamps, wooden flooring, Bentwood chairs, and striped tablecloths, and a bar area adding brass rails and stained glass. The employees are young and wear red-and-white striped shirts, and every time someone celebrates his birthday, the whole restaurant crew comes with a cake and sings T.G.I. Traditional birthday song Friday. The first location closed in 1994 and is now an English pub called "Baker Street"; brass rail is still there.

Although the bar next to nearby Malachy McCourt preceded T.G.I. Friday and Stillman praised the media for creating the term, he accidentally created one of the first single bars. This benefits from the availability of birth control pills and the almost simultaneous Betty Friedan The Feminine Mystique :

I do not think there was anything else like that at the time. Before T.G.I. Friday, four girls aged twenty-five years do not go out on Friday night, in public and with each other, for fun. They go to people's apartments for cocktail parties or they might go to a real restaurant for a date or for someone's birthday, but they do not go to the bar for a casual dinner and have a drink because there's no such place they go.

T.G.I. Friday is one of the first to use promotions such as a woman's night, and Stillman achieves her hopes of meeting women; "Have you seen the movie Catchtail Tom Cruise teasing me... Why do girls want to date a bartender? To this day, I'm not sure I understand." He and the restaurant benefited from his location - according to Stillman, 480 stewardesses lived in the next apartment building - and received publications in national magazines. T.G.I. Friday became so popular that it had to put up a rope to create an area for those in line, also unusual at that time for a restaurant. The competitor, Maxwell's Plum, opens across the street, and the others soon follow.

With fellow Bucknell graduate, Ben Benson, Stillman opened other restaurants, including Tuesday, Thursday, Wednesday, and Ice Cream Sunday. Franchising T.G.I. Friday began two years after the Manhattan location opened, in Memphis, the district of Overton Square in Tennessee; the location has been closed. In 1971, Daniel R. Scoggin acquired the rights to eight major cities in the midwest. In 1972, he opened with the first of a new prototype in Dallas. The elevated square bar and multi-story dining area become the company's standard. Dallas doubled sales and tripled the profits of T.G.I. Previous best friday. Families start visiting new suburban locations during the day for casual meals; "It took six or seven years, but T.G.I. Friday became a very different animal," says Stillman. Attracted by this appearance, he merged into the Dallas franchise that formed T.G.I. Fridays, Inc. and Scoggin is CEO for the next 15 years. He is credited with a new 200 seat prototype as well as many T.G.I. Friday innovations include a great menu from scratch, potato skins, Olympic bartenders, and frozen drinks.

The company was sold to Carlson Companies in 1975. With this sale, Stillman and the original investors left. Stillman retains his original location and is now married, establishing Smith & amp; Wollensky in 1977 with Benson. Scoggin continued as CEO of the contract acquired and completed its sales in 1980.

When the sale was completed, Scoggin signed a new contract to continue as the company's CEO. When the company passed the 100 mark the store issued its Initial Public Offering in 1983 with Goldman Sachs. Scoggin developed the first international franchise and template for international development in the future. The first restaurant opened in England with Whitbread. Prior to his departure in 1986, the company was positioned to attract a wider consumer profile. Alcohol consumption is emphasized, emphasizing quality over quantity.

The company became privately held again in 1989. The focus then shifted from single to family.

Brand extension, featuring T.G.I. The Friday concept combined with sports bar atmosphere and called Friday Row Sports Grill is found in two Major League Baseball stadiums that each ignore the playing field: Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, and Milwaukee's Miller Park.

Historically, the highest-grossing chain location is at Haymarket Leicester Square, which opened in 1992 in Central London. The Haymarket branch is also considered the most popular and financially successful branch. In October 2009, Haymarket broke the world record for the biggest profits made in every week, throughout T.G.I's history Friday, and has also been home to some previous winners of Olympic bartenders, a contest started by Dan Scoggin.

On May 20, 2014, T.G.I. Friday resold to Sentinel Capital Partners and TriArtisan Capital Partners.

Design

The T.G.I. the newer Franchise Friday (as well as the redesigned restaurant) is more contemporary, with wallpaper, granite exterior, and red and white striped lights instead of Tiffany. The exterior has stucco, the entrance has an "F" shaped handle, and the metal cup above the door has a line that says "Here, It's Always Friday". Most T.G.I. Friday has a propeller and paddle paddles that are on display as part of their antiques, which is actually part of the story told to all T.G.I. Employees Friday; Pedaling always contains a pair of saddlery and a bottle of champagne to remind employees about the value of teamwork, leadership, and celebrating success. The propeller is always above or near the bar. The thought is that the bar "pushes" the restaurant.
