At the annual "Paint the Hall Orange" game, everyone present will wear an orange shirt, producing an impressive and intimidating environment. In recent years, however, it has become a habit for Illini fans to wear orange in all home games and hence the official game "PTHO" was discontinued after the 2007-08 season.
In August 2015, before the re-opening of the newly renovated State Farm Center, the wooden floor is dedicated and named Lou Henson Court in honor of the Illinois Fighting Illini basketball leader of all time in the victory of Lou Henson.

Renovation "Illinois Renaissance"
In the fall of 2008, school officials, led by former Athletic Director Ron Guenther, conducted a study to decide whether to renew the then-called Buddhist Hall or build a new basketball arena. In 2010, a decision was made to renovate instead of replacing the building. AECOM's architectural firm has been selected and awarded a contract to design the renovation. Surveys are sent to I-Fund and season ticket holders to measure demand for premium seating options. This information is used to create schematic drawings and architectural renderings near the end of 2012, which will be used by former Athletic Director Mike Thomas to assist in fundraising for the project. The anticipated renovation cost is between $ 150 and $ 160 million, and construction will not start before spring 2014. As part of the renovation, naming rights to the arena are bought by State Agricultural Insurance for $ 60 million over 30 years.
The State Farm Center began to be renovated after the men's 2013-14 basketball season. The addition of luxury suites, club/loge chairs, and all new blue chairs are included in the renovations. In luxury suites and club level chairs, there will be concessions where alcoholic beverages will be allowed to be served as well as the buffet area. The total budget for renovation is estimated at $ 169.5 million.
The construction process did cause some conflicts with scheduled sport activities at the start of the 2015-16 basketball season. The first five games of the 2015 Men's basketball season are played at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield, while the first five games of Women's 2015 basketball season are played at Parkland College. Arena's renovated first game was played on 2 December, when Fighting Illini fell to Notre Dame 84-79.
