The ZF 6HP is the first six-speed automatic transmission in a production passenger car. Released as 6HP26 by ZF Friedrichshafen in 2000, produced by ZF Getriebe GmbH in SaarbrÃÆ'¼cken, Germany. Other variations of first generation 6HP apart from 6HP26 , are: 6HP19 , and 6HP32 have lower and higher torque capacity, respectively.
In 2007, the second generation of the 6HP series was introduced, with models 6HP21 and 6HP28 . A 6HP34 is planned, but never goes into production.
The 6HP uses epicyclic Lepelletier/planetary gearset, which can provide more gear ratio with fewer components. This means 6HP26 is actually lighter than its 5-speed 5HP predecessor. It also has the ability to achieve locking of the converter torque on all six front gears, and release it completely when stalled, dramatically closing the fuel efficiency gap between the automatic and manual transmissions.
The last 6HP automatic transmission was produced by the SaarbrÃÆ'¼cken factory in March 2014 after 7,050,232 units were produced. The ZF factory in Shanghai continues to produce 6HP for the Chinese market.

Technical imperfection
The problem with this transmission is already known. This transmission locks the torque converter on all gears, increasing wear and tear. Combined with closed transmission pans and "lifetime liquids", some people have experienced catastrophic transmission failures.
There are also problems with block valves and solenoid. When this failure begins to occur, shifts in quality and speed, torque transfer and even loss of ability to engage gears can occur. These problems caused Volkswagen AG to extend the warranty on all of their vehicles equipped with this transmission up to 100,000 miles or 10 years.

6HP26
The 6HP26 is an original variation of 6HP, released in 2000. It was rated for maximum input torque of 600 newton meters (443 lbf? Ft). It was first used by the BMW 7 Series (E65) in 2001. Originally provided for luxury cars and luxury cars, ZF made 6HP26 available for Hyundai for use in the 2009 V8 Genesis model.
Some versions of 6HP26 are available depending on the app and brand: 6HP26 , 6HP26A and 6HP26X .
