The Volkswagen Jetta listen Ã, ) is a compact car/small family car that produced and marketed by Volkswagen since 1979. Positioned to fill a niche niche over the company's Golf hatchback, has been marketed over six generations, assorted as Atlantic , Fox , Vento , Bora , Jetta City , Jetta City , GLI , Jetta , Clasico , Voyage , and Sagitar (on China).

Jetta has been offered in a two-door and four-door sedan, and a five-door/real estate version - all four or five seats. Since the original version in 1980, the car has grown in size and strength with every generation. By mid-2011, nearly 10 million Jettas have been produced and sold worldwide. In April 2014, Volkswagen marketed over 14 million, becoming the top selling model.

Many sources note that the Jetta nameplate comes from the 'jet stream' of the Atlantic during the period when Volkswagen named its vehicle after the wind and currents are prominent (eg, Volkswagen Passat (after the German word for trade winds), Volkswagen Bora (after bora), and Volkswagen Scirocco (after sirocco).

The 2013 report by former VW advertising author Bertel Schmitt, said that - after consulting with a knowledgeable VW source including Dr. Carl Hahn, former Head of Volkswagen of America and W.P. Schmidt, the former head of sales at Volkswagen - there is no convincing evidence that Volkswagen used the naming theme for new front vehicles, water-cooled vehicles; or that the names are etymologically certain; or any naming system "has never been announced, whether officially or secretly."

First generation (MK1/A1, Typ 16; 1979-1984)

Although Golf achieved great success in the North American market, Volkswagen observed the hatchback body style lacked some appeal for those who prefer the traditional three-box configuration. The style of the 1970 AMC Gremlin is controversial to cut Hornet horns, but the Volkswagen stylist reverses the process by grafting a new rod into the Golf tails to produce a larger Jetta Saloon (sedan). Jetta became Europe's top-selling car in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This car is also popular in Europe, including Britain, Germany, and Turkey.

Jetta was introduced to the world at the Frankfurt Auto Show 1979. First generation production began in August 1979 at the Wolfsburg plant. In Mexico, Mark 1 is known as "Volkswagen Atlantic".

The car is available as a two-door sedan (replacing the rear-engined rear-wheel drive, a 2-door Volkswagen Beetle rear-wheel drive sedan in the United States and Canada) and a four-door sedan body style, both sharing three traditional box designs. Like Volkswagen Golf Mk1, its corner style is written in ItalDesign, by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The different styles can be found depending on the market. In most parts of the world, the car is available with composite headlamps, while in the United States, the car is only available with rectangular blocked beams due to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 (FMVSS 108). The suspension setting is identical to Golf and consists of a MacPherson strut setup on the front and a twist-beam rear suspension. It shares a 2,400 mm (94.5 in) wheelbase with its hatchback counterpart, although the overall length rises to 380 millimeters (15 inches). The baggage compartment capacity is 377 liters (13.3 ft 3 ), making the Jetta quite practical. To distinguish cars from Golf, the interior is made more luxurious in all markets. These include velor seating and color coordinated lattice for carpet thresholds.

The choice of machines varies depending on the local market. Mostly based on 827 machines of that era. Options in the petrol engine range from a 1.1-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 37 kW (50 hp, 50 PS), up to 1.8 liters of I4 which makes 82 kW (110 hp, 111 PS) and 150 newton meters (111 lbf? Ft) torque. Some cars are equipped with carburetors, while others are injected fuel using K or KE Jetronic supplied by Robert Bosch GmbH. The diesel engine options include 1.6 liters making 37 kilowatts (50 hp, 50 PS) and turbocharged versions of the same engine that produces 51 kilowatts (68 hp, 69 PS) and 130 newton meters (96 lbf? Ft) of torque.

In 1981 Volkswagen had a Special Edition Jetta. "Special limited edition of our versatile sports sedan" It comes in two color schemes, Dimond Silver Metallic with a blue accent, or Metallic Sandstone with brown accents. Options include metallic paint, color-coordinated body-side prints, and lower side lines, color coordinated back cover deck and VW emblem on radiator grilles, wool-wool interior fabrics with cloth covering the headrests, and windows ventilation. In addition, models injected with fuel are also equipped with: Light weight, sport steering wheel, and tachometer with digital clock as standard equipment.

In 1984 Volkswagen offered the Jetta GLI in the US and Canada, adding numerous drivetrain features and improvements from the 1983-1984 US GTI, including a fuel injected 90-hp engine, a 5-speed manual transmission range ratio, sport suspension, anti- front and rear wobble, and ventilated front disc brakes. Externally, the GLI Jetta is distinguished by wide side body molds, black airfoils on the driver's side windshield, a black plastic trim panel between the rear lights and the GLI emblem. The interior of the car uses a 4-leather steering wheel and shift knob, three additional gauges on the center console, a sports seat similar to those in the GTI, and a special seat and interior trim. The GLI Jetta is offered in 5 colors, Black, Atlas gray and Mars red (with black interior) White and Silver Diamond (with blue interior). GLI is offered to the US at Sedan only where Canadians get the Sedan and Coupe. It has been noted that Volkswagen of America has only 5 2 Jettas doors built for Autoshows USA 1984. Instead of creating a special model for them, they use the same code with 4 doors, (Ie: GLI 4Dr: 163-S44), which is believed , 2 Alpine White, 1 Mars Red, 1 Diamond Silver, 1 Atlas Gray.

Volkswagen is briefly considered producing Jetta at a factory located in Sterling Heights, Michigan in the United States. However, as sales declined in North America, the decision was postponed and abandoned in 1982. The site was later sold to Chrysler in 1983 and still operates in 2009. This generation is also produced in Bosnia under the joint venture of Tvornica Automobila Sarajevo (TAS) for the Balkan region.

Security

Volkswagen is an early adopter of passive-holding system. First-generation cars can be fitted with an "automatic" shoulder belt fitted to the door. The idea is to always have a flexed belt so do away with the requirement that drivers and passengers remember for seat belts. Instead of a lap belt, the dash is designed with an integrated knee bar to prevent the submarine under the shoulder belt.

In a crash test conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Mark 1 received five out of five stars in a 56 km/h (35 mph) frontal collision test for driver and passenger protection.

Test and review

The first generation met with generally positive reviews. Testers found the car handled appropriately, though lack of power steering contributed to heavy steering when parking. Brakes work well for cars that day, but some brakes fade away clearly. The journey was tight but sturdy in typical German car style, with large bulges well absorbed by suspension, but smaller undulations came through. Different reviews on noise levels, some find the car fairly quiet, while others think that the engine contributes to higher noise levels. Critics found comfortable seating, but noted that the rear seats did not have sufficient headroom. Most of the controls and main displays such as speedometer and climate control are highly preferred, but some secondary switches are not well placed or intuitive. The above mentioned auto seat belt in some markets attached to the door frame makes it impossible to forget to tie the belt, but it is difficult to insert the car with the package in hand. The author likes generous luggage space, especially for cars of his size. In addition, many storage places also provide practicality to the sedan. In one test, this car scored almost as high as the more expensive Volkswagen Passat/Dasher and the Audi 80/4000.

The Volkswagen Atlantic was introduced in the Mexican market in February 1981. The only competition for Atlantic in the Mexican market is Renault 18. Mark 1 continues to be produced and marketed in South Africa after the introduction of Mark 2, labeled as a fox ".

The Mark 2 series is the longest Jetta so far. Introduced to Europe in early 1984 and to North America in 1985, the second generation Jetta proved to be a sales success for Volkswagen. This car secured the best-selling European car title in North America, Farmer's Journal COTY 1991 and sold more similar golf by two-to-one in that market. Based on the new second generation Golf platform, the car is bigger, heavier, and can accommodate five people instead of four as in Mark 1. The exterior dimensions are increasing in all directions. The overall length goes up to 100 millimeters (3.9 inches), the wheelbase grows 66 millimeters (2.6 inches), and the width rises 53 millimeters (2.1 inches). The suspension settings are essentially unchanged from the first generation, though slightly smoothed, for example by the inclusion of a separate subframe to install the front control arm to assist in sound insulation, as well as an improved rubber buffer for all components. Aerodynamics increased rapidly, with drag coefficient of 0.36. With a 470 liter (16.6Ã, ft 3 ) baggage compartment, the trunk has grown to nearly as many as a full-sized American sedan. The interior of the room also increased by 14%, which changed the EPA class from sub-compact to compact.

Cars built in Germany were collected at a new factory (at the time) at Wolfsburg in Assembly Hall 54. The factory was heavily robotic in an effort to build a more consistent quality. New innovations in the second generation include an optional travel computer (referred to as MFA, German Multi-Funktions-Anzeige), as well as silicon engine and transmission mounts to reduce noise, vibration and violence. In 1988, a more advanced electronic fuel injection system became available. This setting is known as Digifant engine management system.

Like Mark 1, the second generation is offered as a two-door or four-door sedan. External changes throughout the series run only slightly: front-quarter windows were removed in 1988 (along with grid and door changes), and larger body-colored bumpers and lower-sided skirts were added from 1990.

In 2007, Volkswagen of America held a contest to find Volkswagen-powered diesel with the highest mileage on the original machine. The winning car was the 1986 Jetta Turbodiesel found in Blue Rock, Ohio which has 562,000 miles (904,000 km). Local dealers verify odometer readings. Particularly on this particular car is that it also has a genuine exhaust though it is in an area that is exposed to road salt in winter.

Security

In a collision test conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Jetta received three out of five stars for driver and passenger protection in a 56 km/h (35 mph) frontal collision test. The Highway Loss Data Institute (part of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) found injury and collision losses for the Jetta to be among the best of the small 4-door sedan category. It's just topped by Golf. Previous models have the dubious difference of having a very high radio theft rate. Apparently, radio installation makes it very easy to remove quickly. To fix the problem, Volkswagen introduced a theft protection system to all cars. When the power supply to the radio is removed, it automatically goes into "safe" mode. When plugged in again, it will not work unless the secret code is entered. This is basically useless to thieves, though it gives a hassle to customers who misplaced their code cards. The dealer maintains the code database, and can replace the missing code if the radio serial number is given.

North America

Jetta does not differ much from its twin in Europe (at least as much as Golf does), in addition to requirements such as bumper, glass, etc. Also, North American models generally have a narrower range of specifications. For example, most models have things like larger engines, full consoles, door panel bags, velor seats, and, then, power steering, adjustable height column, and standard tachometer. They also do not have higher level options than European variants. The Jetta is considered as a bit upscale from Golf. The feature level is always a step above Golf (holding standard passive in 1988, standard power steering in 1990, 14-inch wheels available for most of the year, etc.).

The Canada specification model is even better equipped. Generally, the Canadian base model receives the same level of option as the American GL, and equals GL and Carat. Another difference in Canadian specifications is that diesel engines (both naturally aspirated and Turbo) are available for all years (in the US, no diesel for 1988, and only n/a for 1989 and 1990), 2-door model for 1992 (it was dropped at AS), early Carat models (which have hot velor sport seats, GLi engines, and optional automatic), and color and trim differences.

Test and review

This car received generally positive reviews, with criticism complimenting excellent car handling, as well as a more spacious interior compared to the last generation. Manually shifting manual transmission is a disadvantage, and braking works pretty well even though some faded brakes are visible on the lower trim line equipped with solid discs in front and drums behind. A number of reviews noted that the trip was rigid and busy, although it has good control typical of German cars. Although there is additional sound insulation, the street noise is clearly visible especially on rough sidewalks. In top trim sports (sometimes called GLI or GTX), some reviewers note the car is a cheaper alternative to BMW or Audi. The sports trim adds larger wheels, more rigid suspensions, and a closer ratio to manual transmission. From mid-1987, Mark 2 GLI was offered with a 16-valve Twin-cam 1.8-liter engine, and was upgraded in early 1990 with a newer Mark 2 body style to a 2.0-liter 16-valve power plant (in North America).

IRVW 3

The IRVWÃ, 3 ("Integrated Volkswagen Research") is a 1983-1984 research study based on an unreleased Jetta II. In appearance it looked like nothing more than a little sports Jetta, but it was packed with very fine technology of its time. Basically this is a feasibility study for newly developed technologies such as Anti-lock braking system and electric power steering. A number of computer-controlled functions, such as a gear that is too fast for a four-speed manual gearbox. The engine is a 1.8 liter inline-four that is familiar from Golf GTi, but here comes with a Roots-type supercharger for maximum power of 129-132 kW (173-177 hp; 175-179 PS). The top speed is 212 km/h (132 mph). IRVW 3 also has a pneumatic suspension that automatically lowers the car when the speed exceeds 120 km/h (75 mph).

Worldwide production

In addition to Volkswagen's production base in Germany, this generation is produced in a number of other countries, including Brazil, China, Nigeria, Mexico, South Africa, the United States, and the former Yugoslavia. In China, after several facelifts throughout the year, the Jetta evolved into an independent model called Jetta Night and a new exclusive model for China was developed based on the same platform as the new Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Santana.

Third generation (MK3/A3, Typ 1H; 1992-1999)

For the third generation, the Jetta name was discontinued, and officially changed its name to Volkswagen Vento in European countries, following the car naming precedent after the wind, debuted in 1992. Jetta 3 debuted in North America on in 1993 after production delays and quality problems at Volkswagen's plant in Puebla, Mexico. The name "Vento" means "wind" in Portuguese and Italian. It went on sale in most of Europe in the first quarter of this year, although it did not arrive in the UK market until September 1992.

Due to the success of the second generation in North America, Volkswagen decided to maintain the Jetta nameplate. However, in Europe cars were given a new name to appeal to a younger market.

Styling was written by a design team led by Herbert Schafer, and again the car became more aerodynamic than the previous generation. Although visually similar to Mark 2, there are many improvements underneath. The two-door model is dropped, aerodynamically enhanced, with the car now having a drag coefficient of 0.32. This includes new structures that now meet global crash standards. Procrastination is a refinement of evolution and not a revolutionary setting in the previous edition, and it mainly consists of a wider trajectory, and even retains backward compatibility with older models. In addition, cars are becoming more environmentally friendly with the use of recycled plastics, CFC free cooling systems, and paints that do not contain heavy metals.

This car generation is widely credited for keeping Volkswagen withdrawing from the North American market. At the time of its introduction in 1993, sales of Volkswagen of America reached the lowest point not seen since the 1950s. This division only sold 43,902 cars in that year. Sales began slowly due to the problems mentioned earlier at the Puebla plant. However, sales rebounded dramatically in the following years, largely based on the strength of the Jetta, which continues to be the best-selling Volkswagen in the United States.

Security

When equipped with dual airbags, Mark 3 received three out of five stars in a 56 km/h (35 mph) frontal collision test conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In a 64 km/hour (40 mph) offset frontset collision test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the car received a "Marginal" score.

Test and review

Newly available in the third generation is the Volkswagen Group 1.9 liter turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) 67 kW (90 hp, 91 PS) diesel engine. Fuel economy is a strong point with a rating of 5.7 L/100 km (50 mpg -a little ; 41 mpg -US ) urban cycles and 4.8 L/100 km (59 mpg -imp ; 49 mpg -US ) extra urban. In the top trim line, a 2.8 liter VR6 DOHC six-cylinder engine is available. In a magazine test car, a 128 kW (172 hp, 174 PS) power plant is capable of accelerating cars from 0 to 97 km/h (60 mph) in 6.9 seconds.

Reviews are generally positive, with testers praising sharp handling and comfortable driving, as well as improved levels of refinement compared to previous generations. However, some reviews noted that the more sporty suspension tuning found in some trim makes the car bouncy, especially on the highway. Manual transmission sharply shifts; However, the automatic transmission reduces the acceleration noticeably. Some critics complain that the controls have several quirks, including the faint windshield wiper control, where the "off" position is accidentally placed between "intermittent" and "sustainable" modes. When equipped, the power window control has an unusual front-end arrangement located on the door, while the back button is located on the center console. Like the previous generation, the luggage compartment provides a large space. In a pre-made car, the glove compartment has been removed if the car is equipped with dual airbags, and in subsequent models (when the airbag becomes standard equipment), the compartment gloves are small and can barely hold the owner's manual and folding paper. There have also been several complaints about the lack of cup holders in the previous car, as well as the lack of interlock safety that will require the driver to press the clutch pedal before starting the car. The 1994 to 1996 model of the Jetta has several electrical problems that cause the car not to start and shorting to occur in some electrical devices because the plastic V is not under the windshield, which is added in later models to divert the flowing rainwater. to the electrical box. Disasters of this error can be avoided by removing the accumulated leaves and debris under the windshield and by installing a layer of weather sealant adhesive under the plastic cover directly into the windshield.

Another major complaint is that the North American TDI model is not rated for pulling trailers, which according to the owner's manual is "for technical reasons." Contrary to the American market, the European TDI model, which has identical power train and chassis, is rated to pull the trailer according to the owner's manual. Many North American TDI owners speculate that Volkswagen decided not to risk the responsibility of the American market, and some owners ignored owner's manuals and installed hitches on their vehicles. The owner believes that the diesel engine provides superior tensile performance compared to the gasoline engine.

Fourth generation (MK4/A4, Typ 1J; 1999-2005)

Fourth generation car production began in July 1999. Carrying the nomenclature of wind, the car was known as Volkswagen Bora in most of the world. Bora is a winter breeze blowing intermittently over the Adriatic coast, as well as in parts of Greece, Russia, Turkey, and in the Sliven region of Bulgaria. In North America and South Africa, the Jetta moniker is once again continuing as the popularity of cars continues in that market.

The Mk4 debuted soon after its bigger brother, Passat, with its share of many styling cues. The round shape and curved roofline serve as a brand new Volkswagen-style trademark, leaving traditional sharp wrinkles for more curved corners. The distinguishing feature of Mk4 is its Whiptenna, a trademark for the antenna at the rear end of the roof, which claims to remove less drag than traditional antennas because of its short and low wind positions. For the first time, the rear passenger door is different from that in the 5-door Golf. The car is also offered as an estate/wagon (the back door also can not be replaced with another). New in this generation are some advanced options such as rain sensor controlled windshield wipers and automatic climate control. However, this is extra expensive and many buyers do not mention it in their cars; consequently the market used has many models that are rarely used.

Though slightly shorter than Mark 3, the fourth generation sees the wheelbase slightly extended. Some powertrain options are carried. Nevertheless, two new internal combustion engines are offered, 1.8 liter turbo 4-cylinder (often referred to as 1.8 20VT), and VR6. The suspension settings remain the same as before. However, it was very softened in most models to provide a comfortable ride, which met with some criticism as it is still quite difficult compared to rivals such as vehicles offered from French car makers.

Diesel

In 2004, a number of new diesel engines "Pumpe-DÃÆ'¼se" Injectors were offered. The new design uses advanced unit injectors, along with additional electronic and emission equipment to meet new air emission standards in Europe and North America, and is much more complicated than the older diesel engines previously offered. To achieve the task of generating enough power while meeting emission standards, the "PD" technology injects direct fuel into the combustion chamber at a pressure of up to very high of 2,050 bar (30,000 psi). The purpose of high pressure is to promote the fine atomization of the fuel that supports more complete combustion. To reduce noise, the engine uses a pilot injection system that injects a little fuel before the main injection. All new generation diesels require special motor oil that meets the Volkswagen 505.01 (or later) oil specifications. Serious damage to the engine, especially the camshaft and injector will occur if oil does not meet this standard in use.

Security

Security in fourth generation cars is a high priority for Volkswagen. The car is built using advanced processes such as high mechanical emphasis, improved measurement techniques, and roof laser welding. In a collision test, a fourth-generation car receives excellent grades. In a New Car Assessment Program test conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the car received five out of five stars for driver and passenger protection in a frontal impact of 56 km/h (35 mph). The new side impact test at 62 km/h (38.5 mph) gives the car four of five stars for driver protection and passenger seat back. Side curtain airbags became standard on the 2001 model. In a more severe offset test, 64Ã, km/h (40 mph) conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, Mark 4 was awarded the highest score "Good". Injury, collision, and theft loss are low for his class car.

Test and review

Critics usually find an acceptable fourth generation. The car was praised for its adequate handling as well as a fairly comfortable ride. Other reviewers noted the car to be a crappy and rather expensive option in the compact car segment, some just call it Golf with boot (luggage) on the back added as a last minute addition. Some complaints were made that the back seat did not have enough room for two adults. Some find seat cushions too strong. The interior is praised for a high level of compatibility, but quite bland, rarely equipped, and uninteresting. New in this generation are Volkswagen's blue and red signature lights that became standard on all models in 1999. Climate control is placed low on the console. Recirculation mode can not be turned on when air is released to the windshield, and if the driver changes the climate control to vent the air into the windshield, the internal mechanism will turn off the recirculation mode. The socket is discharged next to the ash tray and is covered with two flaps, one of which is shared with an ash tray. Retractable glass holders are placed directly above the stereo, obscuring the vision of the stereo display and allowing drinks to spill on stereos, gear selectors, and other sensitive components during erratic vehicle movement. The thin plastic construction of the retractable cup holders is likely to fail with normal use. The rear passenger has a pair of retractable cup holders located under a cylinder cylinder tray on the center console. These problems were corrected in 2003 for the US market by placing two hidden cup holders together on the center console and one behind the back of the hand for the rear passengers. The driver should raise the armrests to access the middle cup holders, and the large beverage that occupies the front cup holders obstructs the driver's ability to pull the handbrake. European cars were given a redesigned drawn glass holder in front.

The driver complains that the front bumper cover does not have enough ground clearance to clear the sidewalks in the parking lot. In addition to scratching the cover, if the driver pushes the Jetta too far forward into the parking lot, the bumper cover will tend to stick to the curb like a thorn, and when the driver pulls out of the parking lot, the entire front bumper cover will be released from the vehicle. In the US, a class action lawsuit on this issue was filed in 2009, and completion was achieved by granting the owner $ 140 replacement for repair costs.

The previous model had some quality control issues, as a number of owners reported falling windows to doors, electrical problems, rusty body panels from the inside out especially on front wheel arches and elevator wagon doors, and defective emissions systems. The fourth generation takes about 52 hours per vehicle to gather at the Puebla plant.

Bora Variant (Estate)

Volkswagen introduced the real estate version/station wagon of the fourth generation car in January 2001 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. This is the first time the Volkswagen "A" platform is available in North America with that body style. Although this sedan was built in a number of locations, all Jetta Estate models were built at the Wolfsburg plant. In back, 963 liters (34Ã, ft 3 ) space is available in the cargo compartment. When the rear seats are folded, the car can hold 1473 liters (52Ã, ft 3 ). Like a sedan, the estate/wagon receives high marks from most reviewers. They noted that the cargo area was large and useful. In addition, the interior remains fit and finish high quality, although the back seat is still a bit small.

In Europe, estate versions are sometimes sold as part of the Golf lane, either on the side or as a substitute for Bora. In addition to the different front bumper, fenders, headlights, and hood, the cars are identical. In some countries sold both Golf and Bora Variant.

Ongoing production

In 2008, fourth-generation cars were still being sold alongside the new Mark 5, due to higher prices than the fifth generation in some countries such as Colombia, China, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. Like its second generation predecessor, Mark 4 continues to be manufactured and marketed in China by Volkswagen Group's joint venture partner FAW-Volkswagen.

In China, the car received a facelift in the summer of 2006, with a face similar to the Passat Mk5.5. The hatchback version (ie Golf) is also produced, but is labeled as Bora HS. Models available in Mexico, Canada, Brazil and Argentina from 2008 are also facelifted with the same design found in China. There is also a heavily modified Jetta called Volkswagen Lavida for the Chinese market, developed by Shanghai Volkswagen on the same platform.

In October 2006, Volkswagen again released fourth-generation cars in Canada (for the 2007 model) as City Jetta. The move was made to allow Volkswagen to be more competitive with the rest of the compact class as the fifth-generation Jetta has moved upscale versus much of the competition. In 2008, the car was restyled to bring the latest look with the range of other Volkswagen products. The only available engine is a 2.0-liter 8-valve SOHC 86 kW (115 hp, 117 PS) four-cylinder gasoline with tiptronic six-speed available (with Sport mode) added as an option in 2008. In the year 2009, both model names changed to Jetta City and Golf City. The Jetta City (since 2010MY) and Golf City (since 2011MY) are now discontinued. The City Jetta is built side by side with the fifth generation at the Puebla Assembly Plant.

In Mexico, the fourth-generation Jetta has been the most successful model of Volkswagen for years, peaking in June 2009 at the top of sales and fourth in October 2009, just below Nissan Tsuru (Sentra B13), Chevrolet's Chevy (Opel Corsa B ) and Brazilian Volkswagen Goals. Nevertheless, it is the best selling compact car in the country. Volkswagen decided to keep the sale together with Bora (Jetta V, who is the fifth best seller) with tagline Why do we want a Jetta? Because the heart gives no reason . In October 2010, the name "Jetta" was dropped, and the simpler name "Clasico" (Spanish for "classic") was selected, suggesting this model may still be offered for years to come. In the range of models, 1.8 liter 133 kW (178 hp, 181 PS) turbo in Clasico GLI and TDI 1.9Ã,® 75 kW (101 hp, 102 PS) engines available. After the 2013 model year, the Clasico line is reduced to a single trim level which is a basic model called CLasico CL Aire (which means equipped with AC). GLI and TDI are also discontinued. CL Aire trim level has a 15 inch steel wheel with full cover. Antilock brakes and front airbags are available in manual and automatic transmissions as optional. The 2014 model is the last one produced in Puebla, Mexico to support the more modern Vento. But some perennial units are still being sold as a 2015 model.

In China, the model received further modifications in 2007, marketed as Bora Baru, and from 2010, just as Bora. The new model was developed by FAW-Volkswagen and is still based on the same platform as Golf IV, but uses several components from the newer PQ35 platform. Bora facelifted in December 2012 and back in March 2016. In 2016, FAW-Volkswagen launched an upgraded version of the updated Bora called Volkswagen C-Trek.

Generasi kelima (MK5/A5, Typ 1K5; 2006-2011)

The fifth generation debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show on January 5, 2005. After New Beetle), it was the second Volkswagen product to make its world debut at the US Auto show. The Mark 5 sedan goes on sale in the United States before other countries, reflecting the importance of cars in the market for Volkswagen. VW spent US $ 800 million to update the Puebla facility for the production of this model. These include US $ 290 million new production line machines for 5-cylinder power plants, an investment of US $ 50 million in a press shop, as well as purchases of US $ 200 million from 460 robots, which increase automation by 80%.

Although produced in the largest volume in Mexico, car end assembly also took place in China and South Africa for these markets. Like the initial production of second generation in China, Asian and African factories are building cars from knock down knock down kits (CKDs) sent from factories in Puebla. The local assembly in Kaluga, Russia, began in early 2008. Production also began in India in 2008. Currently, the Skoda plant in Aurangabad is used for final assembly. Like the previously mentioned assembly plant, the CKD kit from Volkswagen de MÃÆ'Ã… © xico will be used.

In most countries, the fifth generation is marketed as Jetta. Exceptions to this include "Bora" in Mexico and Colombia, "Vento" in Argentina and Chile, and "Sagitar" in China. Mark 5 is 170 millimeters (6.7 inches) longer, 30 millimeters (1.2 inches) wider, and has a longer wheelbase of 70 millimeters (2.8 inches) than the previous iteration. The interior of the room has risen from 2.46 cubic meters (87Ã, Â ± cuÃ, ft) to 2.58Ã, cubic meters (91Ã, cuÃ,ft). In particular, the rear leg room was increased by 65 millimeters (2.6 inches) during the fourth generation. Volume of baggage compartment up to 453 liters (16Ã, cuÃ, ft). One of the major changes was the introduction of the first independent multi-link rear suspension in the Jetta. The rear suspension design is almost identical to that found in the Ford Focus. Volkswagen reportedly employed engineers from Ford who designed the suspension on the Focus.

Styling reflects a new direction for the Volkswagen brand, with a new chrome front grille, first seen in the Volkswagen Golf Mk5 R32, which has spread to other models. Some critics appreciate the new style, while others consider it as insignificant as the fourth generation.

For the 2009 model year, certain markets see new basic models of internal combustion engines and automatic transmissions. The previous 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, and a six-speed automatic transmission, was replaced with a smaller, more powerful, and more fuel-efficient, four-cylinder turbocharged 1.4-liter engine and a six-speed DSG transmission (similar to that used in the new Mk5 Golf). As a result of these changes, fuel consumption has been increased (by 17% for manual, from 8.2 L/100 km (34 mpg -imp ; 29 mpg -US ) up to 6.8 L/100 km (42 mpg -imp ; 35 mpg -US )), and 23% for automatic, from 8.6 L/100 km (33 mpg -imp ) drops to 6.6 L/100 km (43 mpg -imp ; 36 mpg < sub> -US ). Power has increased 7%, from 110 kW (148 hp, 150 PS), to 118 kW (158 hp, 160 PS), while torque is up 20%. In addition, the acceleration time of 0-100 kilometers per hour (0.0-62.1 mph) has increased, from 9.2 s to 8.5 s for manual (8% increase), and from 9.9 s to 8 , 5 s for automatic (14% increase).

Features

The fifth-generation body uses an extensive high-strength steel, and the use of laser welding increases from 5% to 35% of body parts. This results in a two-digit increase in both dynamic and torsional rigidity. Other body innovations include a front bumper that absorbs impacts that produce little in the event of a collision with pedestrians, reducing the chance of injury. The new door design allows only the outside panel to be removed and replaced if it is damaged, not the entire door. Safety is again enhanced with many of the active and passive features available or standard. These include side curtain airbags, side-mounted side airbags, the new generation Electronic Stability Program with Anti-Slip Regulation and Brake assist, as well as active head restraints. Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG) transmission, automatic dual zone climate controls available, and electro-mechanical power steering are also new innovations.

The fifth-generation car has a completely redesigned electrical system. The control module is used for everything from radio to powertrain, transmission via Controller Area Network (CAN) buses. Signal transmission is done digitally at 500 kilobits per second, which reduces the number of cables required, and thus reduces the probability of errors. Cars equipped with halogen headlamps have a 'VW' logo integrated into the bulb shield. In most of the world, taillights use light-emitting diodes (LEDs). However, in North America, standard filament lamps with different designs are used, to comply with FMVSS 108.

Volkswagen has developed very stringent motorcycle quality standards, oil that meets this standard should be used to ensure full warranty coverage.

Machine

The internal combustion engine available depends on the destination market. In Europe, new generation Fuel Generation (FSI) engines are available. In addition in that market, cars can be owned with a machine known as 'Twincharger'. This 1.4-liter petrol engine combines turbo and supercharging, to create a small but powerful engine with low fuel consumption. Jetta is available in America and Middle East, powered by 5-cylinder 5-cylinder 2.5 liter engine in most trim. This engine shares a cylinder head design with a V10 engine found in Lamborghini Gallardo and Audi R8.

When Mark 5 Jetta was introduced, Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engines were not offered in five United States due to the stringent emission standards announced by the California Air Resources Board. In addition to California, the other four states adopt more stringent California standards. If available, it falls into the least restrictive emission category. The category was removed in 2007, prompting Jetta diesel not to be available for more than a year until the introduction of a new common rail diesel engine, which appeared in August 2008. The introduction was delayed for about six months due to technical issues with the new emissions control system. The Clean Diesel TDI engine has a value of 103 kilowatts (138Ã, hp; 140 PS), and uses advanced features such as diesel particle filters and NOx-storage catalyst (vs. AdBlue) to reduce NO x qualifies as a Tier II Bin 5 vehicle (equivalent to California LEV II rating), and thus allows it to be sold in all 50 US states. AdBlue (urea injection fluid) is not required, further reducing maintenance requirements.

In the US, in August 2010, it was reported that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was investigating 37,889 2009 Jetta TDI related to the jammed problem. There was a complaint to the agency about Jettas going into "limp" mode and then stopping almost instantly while being pushed. Trend Motor reports that there are also complaints about the premature failure of high pressure fuel pumps.

Security

At the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety accident tests, the Jetta received a good overall "Good" rating and side impact tests. In a side impact test, the Jetta received a "Good" sign in all nine categories that were measured. In 2005, the Institute noted that the performance of side-impact protection was the best they had ever scored. In 2006, the car received the "Top Safety Pick" award from the Institute. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provides the fifth-generation Jetta for driver and passenger protection in frontal impacts, while the car receives the in a side collision impact test. To put forward the safety of the car, a series of television ads with the tag line "Safe happens" show the car involved in a temporary collision after which passengers proved to have appeared unscathed.

The VW Jetta received a maximum of 5 stars in the China NCAP crash test.

Test and review

The fifth generation received generally positive reviews with some reviewers complaining that the car lost some of its character with a redesign. Most reviewers find the ride to be strong and well-controlled, but not always as forgiving as the previous generation. Handling is a strong point, with fast and precise steering and minimal body roll. Fit and finish received excellent grades, with reviewers noting the car was very luxurious. The front seats are sturdy but well-liked, and the backseat is roomy, in contrast to the narrow spots in the fourth generation. Controls and displays are generally good. Reviewer is very impressed with the "Sportline" model (known as GLI in North America). Equipped with sport seats, a stronger suspension derived by 15 millimeters (0.59 inches), and low-profile tires, critics praised the excellent handling which is an improvement over the already good performance on standard models. In addition, the 2.0 Turbo FSI engine also received praise for its high power numbers, smooth operation, and low fuel consumption. Together with his hatchback brothers, the fifth generation is among the top cars in the market in an independent review of resale value.

Although upgraded during the fourth generation, Mark 5 still takes 42 hours to assemble at a factory in Mexico. Part of this disparity is blamed on the transition to a more complex independent rear suspension. Volkswagen openly expressed its dissatisfaction over excessive assembly time, and promised to streamline manufacturing in the next generation of platform A cars. For a while, Volkswagen de MÃÆ'Â xico made a concerted effort to further increase productivity at the plant, in consultation with experts from Toyota and other Japanese companies. By applying many lean manufacturing principles and techniques, objectives have been set to increase productivity levels at the plant by 30% or more in the coming years.

The sixth generation (MK6/A6, Type 5C6; 2011-2018)

The sixth generation Volkswagen Jetta, known as the NCS (New Compact Sedan) during its development, was announced in the North American market on June 16, 2010. The new model is bigger and cheaper to produce than the previous generation which makes the vehicle more competitive against rivals such as Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and Nissan Sentra as part of Volkswagen's goal of achieving sales of 800,000 units in the North American market by 2018. Vehicle production is at Volkswagen's Puebla facility in Mexico. The sixth generation Volkswagen Jetta is designed primarily by Volkswagen Mexico under the supervision of Volkswagen Germany and 70% of its parts are designed and manufactured in Mexico.

Although it no longer shares the body panel with Golf and has a longer wheelbase, this generation is partly based on the same PQ35 platform.

The goal of Volkswagen to boost North American sales has removed the Jetta from the premium compact car market. This forces a lot of cost-cutting action to take on North American models, which include low-quality interior trim materials and leatherette replacements as an optional seating coating. Leather is still available on Canadian spec models. The North American version also lost the multi-link rear suspension of previous generations. The engines of the MK5 Jetta are included including 127 kW (170 hp, 177 PS) 2.5 L (five cylinders) as well as an economy of 104 kW (140 hp, 142 PS) 2.0 TDI (diesel) engine. A Turbo Hybrid, 111Ã, kW (149Ã, hp; 151Ã, PS) 1.4Ã, L TSI turbocharged intercooled engine mated to 20Ã, kW (27Ã, hp, 27Ã, PS) electric motor provides a combination of 127Ã, kW (170Ã, 173Ã, PS) and 249Ã, N? m (184Ã, ft? lb) became available in 2013, due to Hybrid popularity in North America. In addition, the SEL Premium model maintains a high-grade soft touch interior, as well as independent multi-link rear suspension found on GLI, although it softens for a more comfortable ride. It also has a standard 7-speed sequential manual DSG gearbox, with Sport and Tiptronic modes. The Jetta Turbo Hybrid has an estimated fuel economy of 5.2 L/100 km (54 mpg -imp ; 45 mpg -US ). The 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Turbo Hybrid was inaugurated in January 2012 at the North American International Auto Show.

In North America, the base model (S in the US, Trendline in Canada) receives a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder 8-valve engine with 86 kW (115 hp, 117 PS) and 169 N? M (125 lbf? Ft) of torque. 2013 Jetta Turbo Hybrid model sales are scheduled to start in the US by the end of 2012. From the 2016 model year onwards, the basic American model Jettas will receive a 1.4 liter turbocharged engine that produces 148 hp (150 PS, 110 kW) and 184 lb? ft (249Ã, N? m) torque.

New to 2014, VW replaces the 2.5 L inline 5 with a new 1.8 L 4-cylinder turbo-charged TSI. Based on the VW EA888 platform, 1.8 TSI is listed as one of the 10 Best Ward Machines for 2014, generating 127 kW (170 hp, 173 PS) and 249 m (184 ft lb) of torque, all while reaching an EPA rating of 25 MPG city/36 MPG highway. Other updates for 2014 include independent multilink rear suspensions such as those found in European partners, and electronic power steering (only 1.8 TSI models.)

In Europe, the engine range consists of 1.2 TSI engines, 1.4 TSI (122 or 160 PS), 2.0 TSI, 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI. The European version will differ in some respects, especially in having a multi-link suspension on the back. The European version will also incorporate soft-touch plastic on most dashboards (not doors for this generation), and air ventilation in the center rear seat has been restored. For 2015MY, Volkswagen made many improvements to the Jetta such as new front and rear fascia, headlights, reworked interior, independent suspension for all US models, a set of driver assistance systems such as blind spot monitoring, cross traffic warnings and standard rearview cameras.

The sixth generation Jetta went on sale on July 22, 2010 in Mexico, making it the only country in the world where both are (sold as Volkswagen ClÃÆ'¡sico), and the sixth-generation Jetta is available simultaneously. (Both models are also available in Colombia and Argentina). The sixth generation Jetta replaces the fifth, known in Mexico as Volkswagen Bora . The special edition is called "Volkswagen Jetta EdiciÃÆ'³n Bicentenario Utama" and was approved by the Mexican Federal Government to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the country at the start of the Mexican War of Independence on September 16, 1810. It was also the first car in Mexico to be granted permission to use the logo official government ("2010" plaque). Launched in India on August 17, 2011.

Volkswagen launched the 2015 Jetta facelift in the Indian car market on February 17, 2015. The sedan comes with a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kit, and is locally assembled at the Volkswagen Chakan factory, near Pune.

Launched in Australia and South Africa in September 2011.

The revised Jetta 2015 has earned the highest ranking of most major damage testing agencies around the world: Top choices in IIHS, 5 stars in NHTSA, 5 stars respectively at EURONCAP and AUSNCAP. It is recognized as one of the safest vehicles in its class.

In 2016, the Hybrid model was discontinued from the US Market and replaced by a new 1.4 engine replacing the TDI and hybrid models.

Jetta GLI

The Jetta GLI, a new version of the GTI Golf sedan based on the new Jetta, was revealed at the 2011 Chicago Auto Show with a 200 hp 2.0 TSI engine and fully independent suspension, as well as the soft touch of European Jetta. Black honeycomb grill, low aggressive intakes, side foglight decorate, smoking rear lights, double tailpipes, red-painted caliber, and red stitching are all elements to separate it from a run-of-the-mill partner. GLI, as well as the Jetta TDI, is just two trim to receive a 6 speed Volkswagen manual transmission as well as an optional 6-speed DSG gearbox.

The vehicle goes on sale in 2014.
