The University of Cape Coast is a prestigious state university research university located in Cape Coast, Ghana. The university was founded in 1962 because of the need for highly qualified and skilled workers in education. It was established to train graduate teachers for second cycle institutions such as teacher training academies and technical institutions, a mission whereby two public universities that existed at the time could not be met. Since then, the university has added training functions for doctors and health care professionals, as well as educational planners, administrators, and farmers. UCC graduates include State Ministers, High Commissioners, CEOs, and Members of Parliament.
