Paraphilic infantilism , also known as autonepiophilia, psychosexual infantilism , and adult baby syndrome is a sexual fetish involving role- plays regression into a baby-like state. Behavior may include drinking from a bottle or wearing a diaper (diaper fetishism). Individuals can engage in gentle and cultivating experiences (adults who are only involved in children's games known as adult infants) or are attracted to masochistic, coercive, punishing or embarrassing experiences. Diaper fetishism involves "diaper lovers" wearing diapers for sex or erotic reasons but may not involve baby-like behaviors. Individuals who experience both of these are referred to as baby lovers/adult diapers (AB/DL). When wearing a diaper, infantile may urinate or defecate in it.
There is no recognized etiology for infantilism and there is little research done on the subject. It has been linked to masochism and various other paraphilias. Although generally confused with pedophilia, these two conditions are different and infantile does not seek children as sexual partners. Various causes have been proposed, including some fickle memories, inclusion of errors and errors in erotic targets, although there is no consensus. Organizations exist to promote infantilism or meet other practitioners around the world.

Characteristics and behavior
The infantile community is depicted by a practitioner of two main types - an adult (an adult playing baby) and a sissy baby (who tends to wear normally feminine clothes, and uses female pronouns). There are also individuals who wear diapers but do not act as babies, either diaper lovers who wear erotic diapers, or sadomasochists who use diapers as a way of enforcing dominance and surrender. Although the categories are separate, in practice the behaviors found in each group often overlap. Adult infants who act as infants or young children for erotic stimulation are considered to be signatures of paraphilic infantile signatures. This may involve the use of adult diapers and baby clothes or toys and bed-like furniture to lend reality to infantile fantasies, crawling on the floor, and some individuals may urinate or defecate in their diapers. If the couple is willing, the adult baby can engage in parent-baby games including bathing, powdering and converting into diapers by her partner, before being put to sleep with baby bottles. Some can also simulate lactation with a willing partner. After that adult babies can be entertained by their partner in parent roles and their diapers may change if wet or dirty. For some infantile, the ritual may involve being scolded, beaten or punished for being wet or fouling their diapers. In this last example, passion mode is masochistic. Others may simply want gentle or nurturing care, based on the desire to be treated or to "hand over the responsibilities of adult life". Some infantilis may involve masturbation and ejaculation while others may choose not to have sex because it is not babylike. Erotic pleasure derived from one form of infantilism can replace the need for sexual intercourse in achieving orgasm.
In one participant study of AB/DL sites, 93% of the samples were male (excluding transgender individuals). 58% of men and 34% of women are heterosexual. The first man became interested in AB/DL at age 11, and started practicing on 13, compared to 12 and 16 for women, respectively. The most frequent activities are wearing diapers, wetting, and using other baby items. 87% of men and 91% of women reported that their AB/DL did not cause significant problems or distress.

Prevalence
Significant information on the incidence or prevalence of paraphilias is lacking due to the clandestine nature of such practices. Similarly, it has been observed that infantilism is a confined and undocumented activity in the medical literature. One study reported that 9% of the Yahoo group devoted to "fetishes" were treated with paraphilic infantilism, which was high in relation to other fetishes. If extraordinary behavior does not cause functional disturbance, personal pressure or distress to others, or has legal implications they can escape the scope of psychiatric awareness and knowledge. In addition, infantilis may not consider themselves suffering from a medical condition and may not want to change their behavior, a common occurrence among individuals with paraphilias. Individuals with paraphilic infantilism can only seek therapy for other problems, or are encouraged or forced to seek treatment if found by others. Given these issues the potential of anonymous internet surveys for data collection on infantile communities has been noted.
One member of the ABDL online community research, however, noted that men became attracted to paraphilic infantilism earlier than women, at the age of 11 rather than 12, and also began acting on their previous interests, at 13 rather than 16. The same study found that while most men who are interested in paraphilic infantilism are primarily straight (58%), most women are primarily bisexual (43%). 34% of women are generally straight. Although men and women vary in education, only 66% of men and 39% of women earn more than $ 25,000 per year.
Relationship with other conditions
Infantilism is a widespread phenomenon and different authorities have taken various approaches to the problem of medical classification and sexology.
Definition
The conventional definition of infantilism means persistence of childhood traits in adults and medically failures to achieve sexual maturity, and "sexual infantilism" is also used medically as a synonym for delayed puberty. The term "psychosexual infantilism" is used in Sigmund Freud's psychosexual development theory to refer to the immature individual through his hypothetical stage of being heterosexual. Psychologist Wilhelm Stekel uses "psychosexual infantilism" as a category similar to paraphilia, including paraphilic infantilism and paraphilias and other sexual orientations.
Masochism
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM ) states that along with other behaviors, masochist sexual "... may have the desire to be treated as a helpless baby and wear diapers ('infantilism') "and this association is repeated by others. Masochism seems very important for infantilis women.
Psychologists D. Richard Laws and William O'Donohue stated that "Although infantilism is classified as sexual masochism in DSM-IV and DSM-IV-TR , it is questionable whether the criteria for sexual masochism is always encountered, for example, if the role play of children does not involve feelings of humiliation and suffering, then the diagnosis of sexual masochism will not be appropriate and the diagnosis of infantilism as paraphilia is not justified. Sex Sex John Money, in his book Lovemaps describes paraphilic infantilism as a possible "... adjunctive to masochistic discipline and humiliation." Sexologist William B. Arndt considers paraphilic infantilism to combine forms of fetishism, tranvestism and masochism. Wilhelm Stekel regards the practice of sado-masochism as a different behavior arising from psychosexual infantilism.
The potential relationship between paraphilic infantilism and sadomasochism has been recorded in the Polish publication, Przegl? D Seksuologiczny. The results of the research in the publication show that 28% of the paraphilic infantalis surveyed reported an interest in BDSM.
Pedophilia
Confusing infantilism with pedophilia is a common misconception but infantilism involves role playing exclusively with other adults; infantilism is not associated with pedophilia, or any form of child sexual abuse. Sexologist Gloria Brame states that "... infantilists who recognize and accept their sexuality - and possibly rooted in infantile trauma - tend to be very protective of real children."
John Money states that diaper fetishists may be sexually attracted to babies wearing diapers, a condition he calls nepiophilia, but describes infantilism as autonepiophilia in which individuals want to be and imitate babies and do not want babies as sexual partners.
In 1993, sexologists Ray Blanchard and Kurt Freund published and discussed a series of case studies involving infantilis and noted the differences between them and pedophiles. While pedophiles are attracted to children (and objects related to childhood) because of the desire for a child's sexual partner, infantile imagines themselves as children and adopts childhood or infant objects to increase the power difference between them and spouse sexual preferences of female adults, with whom they act masochistic fantasies.
Other conditions
In some remaining medical cases some doctors have attempted to explain the behavior associated with infantilism in terms of obsessive compulsive disorder, as "a group of concurrent symptoms are found in various psychiatric disorders", or as a form of autoeroticism analogism to Ray Blanchard's concept of autogynephilia as applied in certain cases of gender dysphoria. Psychiatrist Jay Feierman regards infantilism as a form of chronophilia in which infantilists want sexual partners of the same biological age, but their own "sexuoerotic" age is incompatible with their own biological age (eg adult infantils wanting an adult sexual partner who treats them as babies). The 2011 letter to the editor at the Archives of Sexual Behavior reviews some case studies and notes the general history of sexual harassment.
Diaper fetishism
Individuals with diaperist fetishism usually do not imagine themselves as babies. Instead, they more often see themselves as adults who are interested in wearing diapers.
John Money distinguishes between infantilism or autonepiofilia and the use of paraphilic diapers, suggesting that the latter is a paraphilic fetish that manifests as an erotic appeal in an article of clothing while the first is paraphilia non-fetishistic directed at a status change in terms of age identity.
Cross-dressing
Infantilists, usually men, can also engage in cross-dressing and wear stereotypical clothing associated with young girls. This type of behavior is referred to as "sissy baby". The masochistic infantilis may wish to forcibly dress in a cross.
Cause
To date there has been no extensive scientific research conducted on the causes, incidents and general effects of paraphile infantilism on society at large. This may be due to the relative scarcity of the condition and because some paraphilic infantilis appears to seek professional mental health counseling, and fewer seem to require any kind of proactive mental health intervention. A 2002 case report by psychiatrists Jennifer Pate and Glen Goddard found little research on this topic, and they suggested that DSM did not have a category that captured their patient disorders. Research on the etiology of paraphilias in general is minimal and in 2008 has essentially stalled; it is not clear whether the development of infantilism has the same cause as other paraphilias. Criminologists Stephen and Ronald Holmes believe that although there is no simple answer to the origin of infantilism, such practices may involve stress-reduction elements similar to those in transvestism.
Lovemap Theory
John Money developed the lovemap theory,
"Developmental representations or templates in mind and in the brain depicting ideal lover and ideal program of sexual and erotic activity projected in image or actually engaging in".
Money assumes that lovemap is usually fully developed at the age of 8, serving as a sort of sexual framework until the end of one's adult life. Money believes all paraphilias are caused by the formation of abnormal lovemaps during the preadolescent years and that such abnormal lovemaps can be formed by a number of contributing factors or stressors during this period of development. Money also coined the term "autonepiophilia" which means "diaperism" or diaperist fetishism in 1984 to describe the condition. Nepon is Greek for babies.
Printing
It has been hypothesized that, among other reasons, sexual templates are formed by a process similar to the inclusion in which the lack of female genital availability during a critical developmental period causes the printing mechanism to associate with the nearest visual or olfactory approach. In the case of infantilism, maternal discipline or diapering can create a connection between pain, humiliation and sexuality.
Error of erotic location target
An additional theory is that infantilism is an erotic identity disorder in which erotic fantasy is self-centered rather than in sexual partners and results from erotic location targeting errors in which erotic targets are the children have not become inverted. According to this model, proposed by Ray Blanchard and Kurt Freund in 1993, infantilism is a sexual attraction to the idea of ​​being a child.
History
Urolagnia may be as old as a human. It's documented in photographs from the 1890s.
The first public event for an adult was "Baby Week", which took place in San Francisco in the early 1990s. Furthermore the internet becomes the main forum, with many websites offering books, magazines, audio and video tapes and related equipment, as well as a 24 hour hotline. Paraphilic infantilism has emerged as an alternative lifestyle in many Western countries including the United States, Britain, Germany and Australia.
The "Popok Pail Friends" organization was founded in San Francisco, growing to about 3,000 members in 1995 through magazine articles, books, talk shows and the Internet. The organization was studied in 1995 by a group of sexologists, although the results were not published. In 2001, the New York organization "Still in Diapers" was founded for diaper fetishes. In 2008, Diaper Pail Friends has evolved into a national organization and claimed membership of 15,000.
Tykables opened the first fully dedicated physical paraphilic infantilism retail store in 2016 with controversy from the local community. The store owner believes it helps break the stigma about the community.
