The Mercedes-Benz M272 engine is a V6 piston engined engine used in the 2000s (decades). Introduced in 2004, it is based on the M112 V6 introduced in 1998.

All M272 engines have an aluminum engine block with a V-90 ° angle with a silicon/aluminum lined cylinder. The aluminum DOHC cylinder head has 4 valves per cylinder. Direct injection is used limited to V6 3.5 V, while others use conventional port fuel injection. All have a steel forged steel rod, one-piece cast crankshaft, aluminum-coated aluminum piston, and magnesium intake manifold. Like the M112, the balance shaft is installed in the engine block between the cylinder banks to handle vibrations in a 90 degree V6 design. This basically eliminates the first and second order moments. Variable Length Intake Manifolds are installed to optimize engine flexibility.

VVT is continuously adopted for the first time. Displayed on intake and exhaust camshafts, each can be varied to a range of 40 degrees. Twin spark plug systems are replaced with the usual single spark plugs per cylinder. New electronic coolant flow controls replace mechanical thermostats to improve engine heating and optimal engine temperature control. Also the fall flaps are used to increase output at low engine speeds.

E35

The E35 is version 3.5Ã, L (3498Ã, cc). The Bore dimension is 92.6 mm and the stroke is 86 mm. The output is 272 PS (268 hp/200 kW) at 6000 rpm with torque of 258 ft Ã,  · lbf (350Ã, NÃ,Âμm) at 3500 rpm. The direct injected variant debuted in 2006 under the name Stratified-Charged Gasoline Injection (CGI). First mounted on CLS350 CGI, generating 292 PS (288 hp/215 kW) and 269 ft ft  · lbf (365Ã, nÃ,  · m) of torque while lowering fuel consumption. In 2008, non-CGI engines were upgraded to 306 PS (302 hp/225 kW) at 6500 rpm and 265Ã, ft Ã,  · lbf (360Ã, NÃ,  · m) of torque at 4900 rpm. This is achieved by raising the rev limit to 7200 rpm, increasing the compression ratio and other modifications to valvetrain.

Equilibrium Shaft Equipment and Other Problems

M272 machines sold between 2004 and 2008 with machine serial numbers below 2729.30 468993 often show the initial gear-wear gear, requiring extensive repairs with retail costs of more than $ 4000. This complaint caused a class action lawsuit against Mercedes-Benz ( Greg Suddreth and Paul Dunton v. Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC), who accused the M272 engine of being equipped with "tough out-of-time, exaggerated and non-warning" balance balancing gear, which caused the vehicle to malfunction, check engine lights to illuminate and misfire and/or stop driving. "The lawsuit further alleges that Mercedes knows this problem, sends out an improvement bulletin on how to solve this problem and ultimately change the balance gear to avoid this problem. The lawsuit was eventually dismissed with a judge agreeing with Mercedes that because the gears failed at 60 -80K miles and beyond the warranty period, Mercedes was not legally liable for the matter.

However, a second class action suit was filed in October 2012 in Northern California, which included a Mercedes-Benz model made between 2005 and 2007. Initial settlement was reached on April 8, 2015, which will see owners compensate up to 70% of the repair cost. Requirements for completion are expected to be ratified by August 2015.

This machine also has a common problem with their intake manifold. The M273 also has similar problems but not at the same level. The plastic lever that operates the opening and closing of variable long intake manifolds can be damaged prematurely. Mercedes does not have this special section, but they sell the entire intake manifold as a unit that can cost up to $ 800 US. There are a number of third-party companies that sell metal replacement levers at much cheaper cost.
