The Jeep Patriot (MK74) is a compact five-door crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Jeep, having debuted with Jeep Compass in April 2006 at the New York Auto Show for the 2007 model year. Both cars, as well as Dodge Caliber share the GS platform, are distinguished by their style and marketing, with Patriot exclusively offering four-wheel drive systems, marketed as Freedom Drive II.
Patriots are produced at Chrysler's Belvidere, Illinois assembly plant alongside Kompas. Although the model is still in demand even though essentially unchanged when entering the 11th model year, production ends with a model year 2017.

Design
In the United States Patriot uses I4 gasoline engine 2.0 liter or 2.4 liters. Both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are available. Patriots have two four-wheel drive systems both of which are electronically controlled. The four-wheel drive system is called Freedom Drive I. This system is a front-wheel-drive front-wheel-drive 4WD/AWD system which is a front-wheel drive when it has appeal, but can automatically store up to 20-30% power to the rear wheels, or it can be locked within 50-50 below a certain speed. Another system, called Freedom Drive II, is based on Freedom Drive I, but by using a vehicle CVT transmission it is capable of 19: 1 low gear simulations usually found in vehicles with special transfer cases. The 2.4Ã, L GEMA is an option for the Patriot 4X2 model.
For Europe and Australia, the Volkswagen 2.0 liter (1968 cc; 120 cid; 140ps) engine comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox. All EU cars are installed as standard with four wheel drive and Freedom Drive System version tuned differently from the US version but with similar capabilities to FDII with brake traction control and three adjustable electronic stability controls and traction control settings for or use off-road.
Patriot won the Green Award 4x4 2007 and 2008 4x4 Years in the UK.
Patriots use continuous variable transmissions equipped with four-wheel drive systems, marketed as Freedom Drive II, which is capable of holding the lowest possible CVT ratios, in place of traditional two-speed transfer cases. Patriot carries the Jeep "Trail Rated" badge.

The electric version
At the 2009 North American International Automotive Exhibition in Detroit, the Jeep Patriot was added to Chrysler's ENVI lineup. Like the previously announced Jeep Wrangler EV, the Jeep Patriot EV is a long-range electric vehicle (EREV, also called plug-in hybrid vehicle), capable of traveling 40 miles (64 km) on battery power and up to 400 mi (644 km) at one gas tank.
However, Chrysler's new partner, Fiat SpA, dissolved the ENVI division in November 2009, and removed three ENVI models from the 5-year plan for Chrysler. No plans have been announced to continue with the electric version.
facelift 2011
The Patriot received minor interior and exterior improvements for 2011. The front fog lamps were shrunk and moved, and the "Patriot" letter in the rear bumper was removed and replaced with a more traditional rear bumper. Three trims offered in the US: Sport, Latitude, and Limited (which replaced Latitude X earlier). In Canada, North Edition replaces Latitude trims with slightly different equipment.
In the European Union, four trims are offered: Sport, Sport Plus, Limited, and Overland versions. In the EU market, the Volkswagen 2.0 L Diesel Engine is replaced with a 2.2-L Mercedes-Benz Twin-Cam Common Rail Diesel engine that produces 163 hp (122 kW).
For 2011, the 70th Anniversary Edition model is offered to commemorate the history of Jeep. It is based on the Sport model with olive or cream special interior colors, unique wheels, premium audio system Boston Acoustics nine speakers with subwoofer and folding lift lifters, Sirius XM Radio, leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather seats, heated front seats, and other features. This model is available from May to October 2011.
For 2012 alone, the Altitude Edition model, based on the Sport model, is offered. It featured black leather seats, special black finished rims, nine-speaker sound system, Sirius XM Radio, leather-covered steering wheel, heated front seats, and black painted exterior accents. This model began production in May 2012, and is only available for several months.
For the 2013 model year, the Freedom Edition model, based on the Sport model, is offered to commemorate Jeep's commitment to the US Army and military, as well as to commemorate all soldiers who have served. It has a special star hood decal, powerless leather chair, leather-wrapped steering wheel, Sirius XM Radio, and dark-colored rims. This model features exterior paint Commando Green Metallic which is not available in other 2013 Jeep Patriots.
The Jeep Patriot undergoes many changes in trim or models for the 2014 model year; However, 2014 is the first year model that Freedom Drive 1 Patriots comes with a 6 speed Hyundai automatic transmission, not CVT.
Termination
2017 is the last year for the Patriot, but production is discontinued in December 2016 (with the rest of the fleet marketed as "2017" and sold until stock depletion). Both the first generation Patriot and Jeep Compass were replaced by the second generation thereof. However, by 2018, the Jeep Patriot is still available for the Canadian market.
