General alignment
- Hybridization: switch to hybrid electric vehicle. One can use an aftermarket kit for powertrain or use a hybrid adapter trailer.
- Modify the primary engine selection parameters in the Battery Management System of a hybrid vehicle. The vehicle as a lightweight hybrid has parameters for threshold speed at which the vehicle will switch from electric propulsion to the internal combustion engine. Introducing higher speeds as parameters can reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency (although it can increase battery tension).
- Pluginization of hybrid or electric vehicles. A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is a hybrid that has additional battery capacity and the ability to be recharged from external electrical outlets. An electric plug-in vehicle is basically the same, without an extra internal combustion engine. In addition, modifications are made to vehicle control software. This vehicle can be used for short ride at medium speed without requiring internal combustion engine (ICE) of vehicle, thus saving fuel cost. In this mode of operation the vehicle operates as a pure battery electric vehicle with heavy penalty (ICE). The extended range and additional strength of the ICE power train is available when needed.
- Converting electric vehicles. The conversion of an electric vehicle is a modification of a vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE) to a conventional battery electric propulsion, creating a battery electric vehicle. In some cases, the vehicle can be built by a converter, or assembled from a car kit. In some countries, users may choose to purchase vehicles converted from any model in car dealerships paying only the cost of batteries and motorcycles, with no installation fee (called pre-conversion or conversion).
- Modify the engine to run alternative fuels. This includes the conversion of natural gas from gasoline-powered cars and the conversion of vegetable oil from diesel cars. Cars with Diesel engines can be converted cheaply enough and easy to run on 100% vegetable oil. Vegetable oil is often cheaper and cleaner than petrodiesel, but local laws often levy harsh penalties to users who fail to pay fuel taxes when obtaining their fuel outside of regular distribution channels. Liquid nitrogen, Hydrogen fuel conversion and conversion Ethanol is another alternative fuel conversion that can be done with an internal combustion engine. The first two will eliminate all vehicle emissions, while the third will only slightly reduce emissions.
- Replace the hybrid vehicle's internal combustion engine with a hydrogen fuel cell to make the vehicle completely emissions-free; even in recharge mode.
- Add hydrogen fuel cells to battery electric vehicles to increase the driving range.
- Add more battery power to battery electric vehicle to increase driving distance. In addition to placing more batteries, these operations often require additional modifications of the Battery Management System.
