The Dodge Durango is an SUV vehicle manufactured by Dodge. The first two generations are very similar because both are based on Dodge Dakota, both featuring body-on-frame construction and both are manufactured at the Newark Assembly Plant in Newark, Delaware.
The third-generation Durango is built on the same platform as the Jeep Grand Cherokee, has a unibody construction, and has been assembled at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan, since mid 2010. It continues as a medium-sized SUV.

First generation (1998-2003)
Durango is marketed as a robust truck-based SUV designed to hold up to seven passengers and pull up to 7,500 pounds (3,400 kg) when properly equipped. Durango shares the front end, instrument panel, and front seats with the Dakota pickup on which it is based. The original design of Durango eight passengers featured a third row facing backwards similar to many older station cars. To make room for the more practical third row facing forward, Dodge shortened the length of the front door and lifted the roof two inches (5 cm) outside the front seat, allowing for stadium seats. Durango roof racks are designed to cover the appearance of an elevated roof.

Model year changes
For 1999, Durango was made available with two wheel drive. The 3.9 L Magnum V6 engine is available, but few are sold. Small changes are made for the second year, two new paint colors and important choices available including 6-by-9-inch (150 mm mm x 230 mm) hot-sighted mirrors and radio controls mounted on the steering wheel. Leather seats are standard on SLT Plus models, and body color wheel flares are standard on the SLT Plus and four-wheel drive models.
The 2000 model includes the new L8 Magnum V8 engine, which replaces the 5.2 L 5.2 L Magnum V8 which is reliable, as a standard engine for four-wheel drive models. The 3.9 L Magnum V6 engine is no longer available, leaving only V8 for the remainder of production. Durango High Performance R/T is equipped with 5.9 Lumum V8 and all-wheel drives tuned performance.
For 2001, Dodge focused on improving the interior as a Durango interior trim panel, the controls mounted on the dashboard, instrument panel, overhead console, and steering were all redesigned. The case transfer selector on the 4X4 model changes from the manual lever in the console to the switch on the dashboard. The instrument cluster is updated, and the electronic vehicle information center is incorporated into the overhead console. To improve rear passenger comfort, a dual zone climate control system is added as standard equipment. The sound system is improved on all models and is now standard with SX speakers. Other minor changes include: door panels, revised seats, aluminum wheels, and minor changes to trim options.
In 2002, the new Durango SXT version was offered as a beginner trim package. Optional side curtain airbags added for security. Durango 2003 displays small mechanical changes, the most prominent is the addition of four-wheel disc brakes.
In 1999, the following models: 4WD 5.2L V8, 4WD 5.9L V8 store the best collision test results in Durango and manufacturing years, holding 6.8 out of 10 total ratings.

Second generation (2004-2009)
The first-generation Durango was first shown as a concept called the Dodge Durango R/T concept at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show. It debuted shortly before the Dakota companion. Like Dakota, it has a lot in common with the big Dodge Ram pickups, including full box frames. The length is 7 inches (180 mm), 2 inches (51 mm) wider, and 3 inches (76 mm) taller than the previous model. He also offers a third row bench with three chairs, giving him a capacity of eight seats. Facelift

Chrysler Aspen is a luxury SUV from Chrysler. Launched for the 2007 model year, Aspen is based on the Dodge Durango SUV.
Aspen is the first truck SUV commercialized under the Chrysler brand, although PT Cruiser is the first Chrysler-based truck vehicle to be classified under Corporate Fuel Economy (CAFE) regulations. With this introduction, in 2007, all American car brands had an SUV within their reach. The truck was launched at the 2005 North American International Automotive Exhibition. Aspen is equipped with three seating rows for eight passengers and an all-wheel drive available. It's only available in one trim, Limited.

Powertrain
The third-generation Durango has three engines. The base engine is a new 3.6 L V6 engine that produces 290Ã, hp (220Ã, kW; 290Ã, PS) and 260Ã,bb? Ft (350Ã, N? M) of torque at 4800 rpm; 90% of the peak torque is available from 1,600 to 6,400 rpm. The Pentastar V6 engine is powered by a five-speed Mercedes W5A580, with Chrysler control and an interactive driver-control. The 5.7Ã, L Hemi VVT V8 is back with 360Ã, hp (268 kW; 365Ã, PS) and 390Ã, lb? Ft (529Ã, N? M) torque, featuring 545RFE five-speed automatic. The Hemi V8 also comes with a "fuel saver" mode (cylinder deactivation). This feature is mainly used when the vehicle is sailing at a constant speed at ground level.
Update
Dodge launched the revised Durango 2014 model at the 2013 New York International Auto Show. Durango 2014 is redesigned with sporty-looking lines, eight-speed automatic transmission, and a sleek new design similar to Rallye, with blackened bumpers and outline. The tail lights are reworked to display the LED 'Racetrack' tail lamps similar to Charger and Dart. On the inside, Dodge added a revised steering wheel, instrument cluster, revolving play button, and a reconfigurable 7-in (780mm) thin film transistor transistor screen first seen on Dart.
Durango 2015 receives a new package available for R/T trim, which consists of a choice of Premium Nappa Leather Group featuring red radar leather seats, 0.8 inch lower steering wheel (20 mm), black headlamp bezel, low beam HID and LED DRLS, optional R/T embroidered seats, a nine-speaker sound system with a subwoofer, a 360-horsepower 5.7 L Hemi paired with an eight-speed ZF transmission, and a 20-inch Granite Crystallized (510 mm) black finish wheel.
No changes were made to the 2016 model year, but Durango added a new package to their two trims, with an Anodized Platinum package for Castle trimming and the Brass Monkey package for Limited trim.
For 2017, the Dodge Durango Limited trim is discontinued and replaced with a new GT trim and the Base SXT trim level will now be available with 5 passenger seats in 2 rows.

On August 16, 2012, Chrysler attracted 1,661 Dodge Durango model 2013 vehicles in the United States and Canada because some airbags were not used in accidents. The recall affects 1,449 of the seven-seater SUV version in the United States and 212 in Canada and other markets.
On July 24, 2015, Chrysler remembers all Dodge Durangos 2014-2015 with an 8.4 inch (210 mm) touch screen due to security issues with software that controls the vehicle as it can be hacked. Vulnerabilities were discovered by software engineers Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek and originally posted on Wired . This vulnerability will allow hackers to access remotely and take over features, including major parts driving through vulnerabilities in Uconnect infotainment systems.
