History

First building (1883-1898)

In June 1883, twelve years after he founded the City of Colorado Springs, William Jackson Palmer built The Antlers hotel. Named for the large deer rack and deer that Palmer has installed in the hotel. There are 75 unique guest rooms, music room, Turkish bath, children's playroom, billiard room and shaving salon. The hotel has gas lights, steam heat, hot and cold water, and a hydraulic lift. It was very elegant for a hotel to the west. Palmer donated $ 125,000 (equivalent to $ 3,283,036 in 2017) against its development costs.

Second building (1901-1964)

It was burned on October 1, 1898, when a fire began in Denver and the Rio Grande Western Railway Palmer transport depot rebuilt the hotel in 1901 with the Italian Renaissance architecture, designed by the architectural firm of Varian and Sterner. It is an elegant hotel with views of Pikes Peak, 200 rooms, a restaurant, Rose Ballroom, fireproof walls, rugs and mosaic floors. The president who visited the hotel included Theodore Roosevelt, who gave a speech on the hotel balcony in 1901, and Warren G. Harding, William Henry Harrison, and William Howard Taft. William Jackson Palmer died in 1909, after which Spencer Penrose attempted to buy the hotel but was unable to reach an agreement. Instead, he built The Broadmoor. The second Antlers Hotel building was demolished after September 20, 1964, when the last guest checked out.

The third building (1967-present)

The current structure was built by Western International Hotels and opened on 20 March 1967 as Antlers Plaza Hotel . The hotel is about 170 feet (52 m) high with 14 floors.

Western International operated the hotel until March 31, 1975, when it was taken over by the Broadmoor Management Company, which took guests to and from The Broadmoor by London-lined bus. Hotel Antlers overhauled for $ 24 million in 1989-1990 (equivalent to $ 47,381,477 in 2017). In 1998, the hotel, later operating as Antlers Doubletree Hotel , was sold to Adam's Mark Hotels & amp; Resort for $ 35.4 million (equivalent to $ 53,150,592 in 2017). It was renamed Antlers Adam's Mark .

The hotel was purchased for $ 27.2 million (equivalent to $ 36,185 in 2017) in 2003 by a joint venture of Morgan Stanley Real Estate Group and Pyramid Hotel Group, which subsequently spent about $ 7.5 million (equivalent to $ 9,977,388 a year 2017) under renovation. When announcing renovations to 292 hotel rooms, the hotel changed its name from Antlers Adam's Mark Hotel to Antlers Hilton Hotel .

A limited liability company from LNR Partners of Miami Beach, Florida, which is a hotel lender, took over the company in 2007. The hotel is foreclosed and purchased by the LNR Partner entity at a foreclosure auction in December 2013.

On October 27, 2015, the property was purchased by attorney Perry R. Sanders, Jr. and John Goede. The new owner quickly dropped the Hilton's name, renaming the hotel only "The Antlers". On September 29, 2016, the hotel joined Wyndham Hotels as The Antlers, A Wyndham Hotel.

In 1927, there were 24 hotels in downtown Colorado Springs, and by 2015, Antlers and Mining is the only hotel left in the city center. This hotel has become a four-diamond hotel by the American Automobile Association (AAA) since 2007.
