Deadweight tonnage (also known as deadweight ; shortened to DWT , DWT , or dwt ) or tons deadweight (TDW) is the measure of how much weight a vessel can carry, not the weight, zero or any load level. DWT is the amount of weight, fuel, fresh water, water supply, supplies, passengers and crew.

DWT is often used to determine the maximum permitted ship weight (ie when it is loaded full so that its Plimsoll line is at water level), although it can also show actual DWT vessels that are not loaded into capacity.

Definisi

Deadweight tonnage is a measure of ship carrying capacity, and excludes the weight of the vessel itself. This should not be equated with displacement (weight of water removed), which includes the weight of the vessel alone, or volume or other capacity such as gross tonnage or net tonnage (or more ancient they form a dirty list tonnage or net list tonnage).

The dead weight tonnage has historically been expressed in tons of lengths but is now usually given internationally in tonnes (metric tons). In modern international shipping conventions such as the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea and the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, weights are explicitly defined as the difference in ton between the in-water shifts of specific gravity. 1,025 (corresponding to the average seawater density) on the draft corresponding to the assigned summer freeboard and the lightweight (lightweight) displacement of the vessel.
