Security

Design changes are then generated that bring up the Small Overlapping rating to Good rank.
The small overlapping test, introduced in 2012 by IIHS, simulates frontal collisions on 25 percent of the driver's front side. Since its adoption, IIHS has seen some cars make non-symmetrical modifications on their vehicles to improve ratings. Other small overlapping tests were performed on a number of vehicles, including the CX-5 2015, but performed on the passenger side instead.
The collision test shows a much larger intrusion to the passenger side than the driver's side of the CX-5.
