The Lexus GX (Japan: GX, Rekusasu GX ) is a luxury mid-size SUV sold in the North American and Eurasian markets by Lexus. The name GX stands for Grand Crossover. Lexus introduced the first generation, known as the GX 470 in 2002, and later became the third SUV to enter the Lexus lineup. The five-speed auto is always standard, just like a full-time four-wheel drive system with low-distance gearing. The 4.7-liter V8 engine in the GX 470 is the same as used on the larger LX 470. The company further introduced the second generation model in 2009, the GX 460 is headquartered to reflect a switch to a 4.6 liter V8 engine. Lexus then released a lower GX 400 shift in 2012 for the Chinese market, with a 4.0 liter V6 engine.
The GX is positioned between a reliable, off-road RX crossover RX and full-size LX SUV. All GX production has taken place at the Tahara plant in Japan, next to the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. Both GX generations have been based on the Prado, with updated frontal styles to further integrate with the Lexus lineup. Elsewhere, the changes are less prominent and are mainly confined to small ornaments, such as wheel and taillamp lens inserts. First generation interiors mostly reflect the Toyota-badged version. Second-generation interiors are increasingly distinguished by fewer shared components.

Generasi pertama (J120; 2002-2009)
Lexus introduced the GX 470 at the North American International Auto Show in January 2002 as a model in 2003, with sales beginning in November 2002. The GX development program began in 1999 after the J120 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in 1997, with design work by Shoichi Fujiyoshi ending in the beak first in 2000. Weighted based on Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (J120), GX and Prado share common platforms, mechanics, and bodyworks (except front-end), so therefore have a common basic dimension. Similarly, the interior is almost the same, with the Lexus receiving a further premium touch when compared to the Toyota-badged version. Like the Prado, the GX design incorporates a welded steel-on-frame body construction, an electronically controlled five-speed automatic transmission, and a permanent four-wheel drive with central Torsen differential locking. The suspension shares its layout with the Toyota 4Runner equipped with rear air suspension, while adding Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) and Downhill Assist Control (DAC). AVS can adjust the moistness constantly while the DAC modulates the derivative down the slope. The power comes from a 4.7 liter, 32-valve, four-cam 2 VZ-1UZ-FE engine originally rated at 175Ã, kW (235Ã, hp) at 4,800 rpm and 434Ã, à ° mm (320à , Lb? Ft) of torque at 3,400 rpm. The drawing capacity was rated at 2,300 kg (5,000 pounds) for the 2003 model year. Mid-year through the 2004 model year, the GX received an enhanced pullout capacity of 2,900 kg (6,500 pounds) with the addition of a stronger tubular obstacle. Ground clearance measured 211 millimeters (8.3 inches), with an approximate angle of 30 à ° and a departure angle of 29 à ° rise (25 à ° normal). GX 470 brings the drag coefficient C d = 0.38.
The interior comes with two rows of seats, while the optional third row allows up to eight passengers to carry. However, the third row of folding was tight with only legroom 610 mm (24 inches). Mark Levinson's audio system along with the Backseat Entertainment System is available as an option. A back side rear tub is standard.
In 2003, for the 2004 model year, the GX 470 transmission was upgraded to a sealed unit without a dipstick. The optional Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) becomes available as an additional year-end. KDSS frees and adjusts the vehicle stabilizer bar for greater articulation allowing the wheels to move with little restriction over uneven terrain, and using front and rear hydraulic pressure valves and larger stabilizer rods to reduce body roll during on-road conditions. Increased safety for 2004 includes roll-sensing features for side curtain air bags, tire pressure monitoring systems, and optional rear-view camera systems.
In 2004, for the 2005 model year, the GX 470 engine gained 26 kW (35 hp) with the addition of VVT-i with a total of 201 kW (270 hp). This allows the SUV to be certified as an Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle II (ULEV II) in the US. Other improvements include an improved navigation system, Bluetooth compatibility, and more voice commands. A Sport model joins in a row, including the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System and different styles like smoked bezel headlamps, chrome trim additions, and maple blackbird eyes.
In 2005 for the 2006 model year, changes in SAE engine testing procedures resulted in a slight decrease in the amount of power stated for V8 to 196 kW (263 hp), and Lexus Link telematics offered in North America. For 2007, the GX 470 is largely unchanged, with improvements to cabin electronics including a new generation of navigation systems, additional input jacks for devices like iPods, DVD video playback while parked, and larger optional rear entertainment video screens.
Finally, in 2007 for the 2008 model year, the GX 470 received styling updates, including dark metallic grille, liquid graphite wheels, chrome exterior and interior added, revised revised signal lights, and added wood and body color options.
Lexus GX has won numerous awards including "Four Wheeler of the Year" in 2003 and 2004 from Four Wheeler Magazine and the All-Star Car Magazine for 2003 at Mid-Categories Sport - Utility size. J.D. Power and Associates named the GX 470 luxury SUVs with the highest initial quality ratings in 2005, and Kelley Blue Book gave GX 470 its Best Sales Value Award in 2006.

Second generation (J150; 2009-present)
GX 460 made its debut at the China International Car Show (Guangzhou) in November 2009. The redesigned model continued with body-on-frame construction, full-time four-wheel drive, hi-lo transfer case and locking center locking Torsen. Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) becomes standard. Power comes from a 4.6 liter V8 engine producing 224Ã, kW (301Ã, hp) and 446à £? M (329Ã, à £), mated to a new six-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is improved from the previous generation, while the maximum drawing capacity is 2,950 kilograms (6,500 pounds). The drag coefficient is reduced to C d = 0.35. The rear wiper is hidden under the rear spoiler, and while the rear door remains open, a flip-up glass panel is added.
The interior adds a third row of folded strength and two folded passengers, allowing a capacity of up to seven passengers, with the second row sliding or tilting for third row access. Since the third line is no longer removable and uses additional space, the cargo capacity decreases. The toggle switch replaces the shift lever mounted on the transfer floor, and the measuring group adds a steering angle view to the off road situation. Similar to previous, Mark Levinson sound system and two Rear Seat Entertainment System (RSES) screens are optional, while three zone climate controls, semi-aniline skins and second-row heated and steering seats are new options.
Like its predecessor, the High Adjustable Air Suspension (AHC) suspension is offered on the GX 460 with Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) systems. Additional electronic help includes the LX 570 Crawl Control system, Downhill Assist Control (DAC), and Active Traction Control (A-TRAC). Torsen Differentials distribute variable torque splits when left open, including a 40:60 (front: rear) ratio under normal driving conditions, 30:70 when cornering ratio, and 50:50 ratio when rear wheel slip is detected.
Additional safety features include active whiplash-reducing headrests and ten airbags, including front knee airbags and side rear side airbags. New security options include Pre-Collision System, Driver Monitoring System, lane departure warning system, and Lexus Enform with telematics Safety Connect. Optional cameras located in the rear door, rearview mirror, and passenger side mirrors provide a side view of the vehicle. HID low-beam headlamp projectors are offered with High Beam Intelligent feature that automatically dims high beams depending on traffic conditions and Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) that rotates headlamps in corners.
On May 28, 2012, Lexus China announced the launch of the GX 400 market, which replaced the GX 460 in China. Engine options are now transformed into a 4.0-liter 1GR-FE V6 engine that produces 202 kW (271 hp) combined with a five-speed automatic transmission. Due to power reduction, it takes 9.8 seconds for the GX 400 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph). Compared to the outgoing GX 460, most of the standard equipment on the GX 400 remains the same.
On April 13, 2010, Consumer Reports in the United States urged customers not to buy the 2010 model GX 460, labeled "Do Not Purchase, Safety Risk", ranked first vehicle since 2001, following emergency test results "lift -off oversteer ". This label was revoked on May 7, 2010. In a high speed test, the SUV quickly turned without pedal input, causing slides to the side before the vehicle stability control (VSC) started to stop full. Consumer Reports says that VSC is acting too slowly, and if the wheels hit the sidewalk or slid off the sidewalk, rollover accidents can happen. Platform-sharing Toyota 4Runner passed the test, and while Consumer Reports said that they did not know the actual incident, it recommended software improvements. On the same day, the Toyota vehicle maker expressed its concern, thanked the magazine, and temporarily halted the sale of the GX 460. While noting that the SUV met all US federal requirements, on April 16 Toyota confirmed that its testing has doubled the results.
On April 19, a GX 460 withdrawal was voluntarily issued, along with Land Cruiser Prado, for software updates to improve the VSC response. With on-premises software updates, sales resumed on 29 April. The vehicle stability control has been criticized by Wheels magazine for slow response speeds on models such as Toyota Kluger (known as Highlander in North America), while Drive notes that VSC has also been said to interfere hands too fast. The Wall Street Journal shows the lack of VSC a decade ago.
In September 2013, the GX has been updated with Lexus spindle lattice design, new LED headlamps and daytime running standard LED lights; LED foglamps are optional. In the US the price has decreased $ 4,750.
For the 2017 model year, the Lexus GX is now available with second-line captain seats with luxury packages.
