Tire Discounters is a tire and automotive service store started by Chip Wood in 1976 in Plainville, Ohio, with a one-bay shop and a truck loaded with tires from Akron. They are known for their unique radio spots from the early 2000s with "Phantom Tire Buyers", their slogans, "Free Flattening House" and "More Door Exit", and ever-changing signs in their store. They are one of the few tire stores that use nitrogen inflation, introduced to Tire Discounters in 2004. In 2014, they broke the Guinness World Record for the tallest stack of tires.

Tire Discounters is based in Ohio, headquartered in Cincinnati. They are family owned and operated by the Wood family. In 2008 they entered the Lexington market. In 2011, they opened a new headquarters in Sharonville. Now their warehouse is 200,000 square feet. That same year, they entered the Louisville market, and in 2014, Nashville. In 2015, they moved their headquarters to downtown Cincinnati, while maintaining a warehouse in Sharonville and Murfreesboro, Tennessee. In 2016, they open their 100th store and enter the Chattanooga market. In February 2017 they have more than 100 stores in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee and Georgia, with locations in Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, Lexington, Louisville, Nashville and Chattanoogaand employing over 1,100 people.

Buyers of Phantom Tire
The identity of the Phantom Tire Buyers is still unknown. However, rumored to be a Chip Wood himself. In an article in Cincinnati Business Courier, Jamie Ward, the current president of the company, laughs at the question.
Highest tire pile
In celebration of the reopening of its first store, Tire Discounters built a stack of Ban Falken on March 27, 2014, 19.95 feet tall. The previous world record of tire buildup of 19.77 was set on September 6, 2009, in Wiesental, Germany.
