Middle age is the period of age outside of young adults but before old age.

Definition
According to the Oxford English Dictionary middle age is between 45 and 65: "Period between early adulthood and old age, usually considered a year from about 45 to 65." The US census lists the middle age category from 45 to 65. Merriam-Webster's middle-age list from 45 to 64, while leading psychologist Erik Erikson sees it start early and defines middle adulthood between 40 and 65. The Collins English Dictionary lists it between the ages of 40 and 60, and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder - the standard American Psychiatric Association diagnostic manual - is used to determine middle age as 40 to 60, but at DSM-IV (1994) to revise the definition upwards to 45 to 65.

This time in the lifespan is considered the stage of development of those aged between 18 years and 40 years. Recent developmental theories have recognized that development occurs throughout one's life when they experience cognitive, physical, social, and personality changes.
Adult middle
The period of time in one's life can be called middle age. This period has been defined as the time between the ages of 45 and 65 years. Many changes can occur between young adults and this stage. The body may slow down and middle age may become more sensitive to diet, substance abuse, stress, and rest. Chronic health problems can be a problem with disability or illness. About one centimeter tall may disappear per decade. Emotional and retrospective responses vary from person to person. Experiencing a sense of death, sadness, or loss is commonplace at this age.
Those in middle or middle adulthood continue to develop relationships and adapt to changes in relationships. Change can be an interaction with growing and growing children and aging parents. Community involvement is quite distinctive from today's stage, as well as ongoing career development.
Physical Characteristics
Middle-aged adults may begin to show signs of aging visible. This process can be faster in women with osteoporosis. Changes may occur in the nervous system. The ability to perform complex tasks remains intact. Women between the ages of 48 and 55 have menopause, which ends natural fertility. Menopause can have many side effects, some are acceptable and some are not so acceptable. Men may also experience physical changes. The mortality rate may start increasing from 45 onwards, mainly due to health problems like heart problems, cancer, hypertension, and diabetes. However, the majority of middle-aged people in industrialized countries can expect to live to old age.
Cognitive Characteristics
Erik Erikson refers to this period as a stage of generatitivity-versus-stagnation. People in middle or mid adulthood may have some cognitive loss. This loss usually remains less conspicuous as life experiences and strategies are developed to compensate for the decline in mental ability.
Characteristics of social and personality
Fixed marriage satisfaction but other family relationships can be more difficult. Career satisfaction focuses more on inner satisfaction and satisfaction and less on ambition and desire to "get ahead". Even so, career changes can often occur. Adult age or middle age may be the time when someone re-examines their lives by taking stock, and evaluating their accomplishments. Morality can change and become more aware. The perception that those who are in this stage of development or life experiencing a "mid-life" crisis are mostly wrong. The period in life is usually satisfying, calm. Personality traits remained stable during this period. Relationships in the middle of adulthood can continue to evolve into a stable connection.
