The Kia Rio is a subcompact car manufactured by South Korean manufacturer Kia since August 2000 and is now in its fourth generation. Body style includes three and five-door hatchback and four-door sedan, equipped with gasoline engine and diesel-four diesel, and front-wheel drive.

Rio replaces the first-generation Pride - a rebadged version of the Ford Festiva - and Avella, a subcompact that is sold as Ford in some markets. The second generation was introduced in 2005 in Europe and 2006 in North America, sharing a platform with Hyundai Accent, a subcompact manufactured by his brother Hyundai Motor Company in South Korea.

Generasi pertama (DC; 2000-2005)

The first generation Kia Rio (referred to as "DC") is offered both in a four-door sedan and a five-door body-style station wagon. When released, it is the cheapest mass-produced car for sale in the United States. While the styling and affordability of Rio is well received, it is ridiculed for its build quality and a poor driving experience.

The wagon stations are marketed as "Rio Cinco" in the United States, "Rio RX-V" in Canada, and "Rio Look" in Chile. The sedan version is not sold in the United Kingdom, and the station wagon is known as "Rio" there. In Greece, both versions are sold as "Rio". In South Korea, this is the only generation that uses the name "Rio", because the name "Pride" is used since the second generation and beyond.

The first-generation Rio only offers one engine for every model year in the United States: the gasoline DOHC I4 petrol engine 1.2 liter (72 watts) from 2001 to 2002. Later versions appear, DOHC 1.6 liter four-cylinder rated at 104 hp (78 kW) used for the 2003 to 2005 model year. All year offers a choice of five-speed manual transmission or four-speed F4A-EL automatic. An alternative to the 1.3-liter (1,343cc) four-cylinder SOHC/eight petrol valve, generating 75 hp (56 kW) is offered in several other countries, including the UK and most of Europe. The five-feature power steering version of the United States and the tachometer, optional on the sedan. The European version is marketed under several trim levels; standard equipment for all trims including driver's airbag. Additional features are available for promotion in Greece, including leather seats and car alarms. In Europe, various national markets accept different options from three machines.

The domestic version of the Korean market does not include the 1.6 liter version, as South Korea's tax system punishes cars more than 1,500 cc. The output claimed for the domestic version (JIS) is higher, at 84 PS (62 kW) for 1.3 and 108 PS (79 kW) for DOHC 1.5. For SOHC 1,595 PS (70 kW) is claimed. The first-generation hatchback is marketed as the Rio RX-V in South Korea.

Safety features include seat belts and airbags for the driver. ABS is available as an option for entry-line cars but is installed by default for top range models (ie, Rio LX, in the UK, and Rio LS, in Greece).

Facelift

In 2002 Rio received a lightweight redesign (for the 2003 model in the US) including improved engine, suspension, brake and new interior and exterior styling. After this 2002 facelift, the entire range received the "Rio SF" moniker in the domestic South Korean market, with "SF" standing for both "Science Fiction" and "First Safety".

In Europe, the Rio facelift received slight changes to the external display and engine improvements of 1.3 from 75 hp (56 kW) to 80 hp (60 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 86 lb ft (117 N) at 3,000 rpm..

Iran's production of Rio facelift by SAIPA began in 2005. The cars were not equipped with ABS or airbags until 2012, powered by a 1.5 liter engine version that produces 96 hp (72 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 135Ã, N? M (100Ã, ft? Lbf) torque at 4,500 rpm. In early 2012, production ends. Second generation (JB: 2005-2011)

Secondary generation (JB: 2005-2011) /span>

Kia introduced the second generation (JB) at the beginning of the 2005 model year in Europe and for the 2006 model year in North America, based on a redesigned platform along with Hyundai Accent. The engine is upgraded to a four-cylinder DOHC four-liter DOHC 110-liter "Alpha II" engine which is now also shared with Hyundai Accent. Other changes include a new exterior design, increased exterior and interior volume, improved safety features and fuel savings. Station wagons dropped with this generation, replaced with a new 5-door hatchback.

Kia offers 2006 sedans as Rio and Rio LX, LX trims including power steering, air conditioning, and CD player. Rio5 (USA) offers only SX trim levels with leather-covered steering wheel. As in the first generation, only the five-door hatchback version is offered in some European markets (including UK). Three machines available; a 1.6 liter DOHC engine with 110 hp (82 kW), a lower 1.4 liter version with 96 hp (72 kW) and a Turbodiesel 1.5 L engine with 109 hp. However, in the US market only 1.6L petrol engine is offered, in two body styles: four-door sedan and five-door hold. European common rail diesel engines produce 110 PS (81 kW).

In 2007, the SX trim level was added to the Rio sedan with the same features included with Rio5 SX.

In 2007, the South Korean government began testing about 4,000 Rio's pre-production hybrid electric models, with its parent Hyundai Kia Automotive Group later announcing and then withdrawing the anticipated release date for the hybrid model.

For 2008, Kia offers LX trim rates for Rio5 (similar to the Rio LX sedan) and limited production of the Rio5 SX Tuner model, featuring Falken FK452 tires, strut towers of Tanabe strut and Eibach lower springs.

For the 2009 model year, all Rio and Rio5 trims accept Sirius Satellite Radio (free for three months) and radio with USB & amp; jack auxiliary, auxiliary jack replace the Bluetooth mobile phone connection for the device with earphone jack, for example iPhone. Kia Rio was ranked 5th in the list of "20 most expensive vehicles 2009 to be insured" by Insure.com. According to research, Rio is one of the least expensive vehicles to be insured.

For the Malaysian market, the second generation Rio was launched on September 7, 2005 is available with just one trim level with only a hatchback bodystyle and powered by a 16 liter 16 liter DOHC engine with a 4-speed automatic gearbox and is fully imported from Korea.

Facelift

For the 2010 model year, this model received a facelift at the end of 2009, adopting the new Kia Tiger nose grille. In addition, the steering wheel receives the same design as the Kia Soul and Kia Forte, featuring optional Bluetooth hands-free phone operation, and the gauge cluster accepts the new red backlight design. The headlights are modified slightly, with a darker view and parking lights and side marker lights that share a rotary-signal housing. Side prints on cars become narrower and more colorful. For the English version, Rio looks exactly the same as the US version, except only the hatchback variants sold there. It has a new Kia grille bowtie (for 2010 models) and is powered by a 1.4 liter DOHC DOHC four-cylinder gasoline engine, or a 16-valve DOHC 1.5-liter four-valve diesel. They both have a five-speed manual gearbox.

Third generation (UB; 2011-2017)

The third generation Kia Rio made its debut on March 1, 2011, at the Geneva Motor Show, again based on Accent Hyundai.

It features 1.4L or 1.6L Hyundai GDI Gamma engine. The European market also received the option of 1.25 L Petrol Engine, as well as Turbo Diesel Engine 1.4 L or 1.1 L CRDi - 1.1 L engine with the lowest CO2 emissions and highest MPG from current non-electric or hybrid cars is on sale at time of writing; up to 88mpg in a combined cycle of EU (73mpg in US gallon) and emits only 85 grams of CO2 per kilometer. This market, however, does not have a 1.6 L engine, with 1.4 L being the most powerful being offered.

The transmission options include 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic for the American market, with the European market receiving a 5-speed manual for the 1.25 L Petrol engine, 6-speed manual for 1.4 L Petrol, 1.1 L and 1, 4 L Diesels and 4-speed automatic for model specification 1.4 L petrol "2" in 5-door configuration. Stop smart & amp; go is an option in almost any trim and available engine level.

Rio in Europe also received a 3-door model. It is mechanically identical to 5 doors, though longer doors provide a more sporty appearance that appeals to a young audience. Door 3 also feels cheaper than 5 doors.

One time, limited delivery of 50 top-spec European 3-door models has been shipped to New Zealand based on "3" UK trim and marketed as the Rio Sport EX. Imported European models have better specifications than current cars available in New Zealand, with some additional options added on top of European cars (such as no locks), with limited availability designed to make the car feel exclusive.

In November 2011, the third generation of Rio was awarded the Semperit Irish Car of the Year and in December was awarded the 2011 Carsguide Car Award as well, winning over many other vehicles including the likes of Range Rover Evoque and Ford Newly inspired Territory.

For the Malaysian market, the fourth generation of Rio launched in January 2013 is available with two trim levels (EX and SX) with only a hatchback bodystyle and powered by a 1.4 liter MP4 Gamma G4FA engine. The facelift version was launched in Malaysia in May 2015 and is available with just one trim level (SX). The sedan version was launched in January 2016, with just one trim level and powered by a four-cylinder 1.4 liter engine and 4-speed automatic transmission. An "X" sedan variant was introduced in March 2016.

Kia Rio GT

Kia released a turbocharged performance model from Cee'd, called Pro_Cee'd GT in Europe in July 2013, and is the company's first hot hatch. Rumors have emerged on the internet that the Rio GT (based on what is known as the 5-door Rio in America, but using a 3-door European configuration) can go into production, giving Kia a true supermini hot massage to rival the established. leader of the class; Ford Fiesta ST, Peugeot 208 GTi and Renaultsport Clio. Rumors are supported when VP of Europe for Kia, Benny Oeyen, mentions that if Cee'd GT succeeds, Kia will put more GT models into production, including Rio. The unnamed Kia insider also stated Rio as a future treatment candidate for GT.
