Note

  • The 4.7 L Output Machine which first appeared with Grand Cherokee Overland WJ was dropped from the Jeep line. It was used in Dodge Dakota and Dodge Ram 1500. 4.7 L was revised in 2008, increasing horsepower and torque up to 310 hp (231 kW; 314 PS) and 330 lb ft (447 N m) of torque. High dedicated Output version is dropped as a result.
  • WK is known as WH in international market (ie non-US).
  • The HEMI 5.7Ã, L for 2005-2008 has a slightly lower horsepower than found in Dodge Ram or Dodge Charger (330 vs 345) due to different engine control unit (ECU) programs.
  • HEMI engine 5.7Ã, L for 2009 and improved with Variable Cam Timing (VCT) adding torque 27Ã, hp (20Ã, kW; 27Ã, PS) and 14Ã,Âbb (19Ã, N? m).
  • The 3.0Ã, L diesel stop production for North America at the end of 2008. The late production models with diesel engines are often referred to as the 2008.5 model. They can not be branded as a 2009 model due to tighter diesel emission standards.

SRT-8

The SRT-8 (Street & amp; Racing Technology V8) version of the Grand Cherokee debuted at the 2005 New York International Auto Show. Powered by 420 hp (313 kW) version 6.1Ã, L Hemi , it also features an improved Brembo brake, large dual performance exhaust with polished tips (out of the center of the back), Bilstein gas filled performance shocks and modified suspension components, the Mercedes-Benz NAG1 (WA580) 5-speed transmission, the unique NV146 transfer case, a specially designed all-wheel drive electronic and interior and exterior update system. The drive shaft of the diesel application, provided with a back differential of Fund 44, and the 11.2 "Goodyear tire on the back (10" or 255 mm on the front) complete the performance pack. The tuned sport suspension allows the Jeep SRT8 to develop 0.92 g on the skid pad.

Road test from 2006 production model conducted by Road & amp; Track resulted in 0 to 60 mph of 4.6 seconds and a quarter-mile dragstrip of 13.2 seconds at 104.1 miles per hour (167.5 km/h). These figures make the SRT-8 Grand Cherokee the fastest accelerating vehicle in the SRT8 range, second only to the Dodge Viper SRT10 among all SRT vehicles. No speed electronic governor is used, leaving the top speed rev-revving (revving to redline in top gear) to 170 mph (270 km/h).

To improve road handling and reduce weight, off-road gear has been removed. The SRT-8 uses the NV146 transfer case, which uses an electronic applied coupling package to transfer 0-50% of torque to the front axle but has no manual or low range control. Front and rear differentials are both open, with no limited slip capability. The rising attitude is significantly lower and the front fascia spoiler gives the vehicle 7 inches (178 mm) of ground clearance. A total of 14,921 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 are produced.

Diesel

In Europe, South America, South Africa and Australia, the CRD V6 engine produced by Mercedes-Benz is available from the introduction of the Grand Cherokee (WK) in 2005:

OM642 3.0Ã, L CRD V6 Turbo Diesel with Variable geometry turbocharger (VGT). It produces 215 horsepower (160 kW; 218 PS) and 376 lb ft (510? N? M) of torque at 1,600 to 2,800 rpm at fuel consumption of 17 mpg -US (14 L/100 km ; 20 mpg -imp ) city and 22 mpg -US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg -low ) highway.

Note: MPG figures are based on the United States Environmental Protection Agency, European consolidated consumption is 27.7 mpg -imp (10.2 L/100 km; 23.1 mpg -US ).

In North America 3.0 CRD is available for MY 2007 and 2008, but worldwide - namely UK, Europe Australia etc, it has Mercedes-sourced engines for vehicle production life from 2005. Mercedes-Benz sourced units meet Euro 4 standards Tighter emissions without the need for filters particulate diesel - which inhibits vehicle efficiency, but - it includes a particulate diesel filter (North America only) that seems to further reduce exhaust emissions. However it is not available for sale in California or certain Northeast countries, due to new stricter emission regulations for non-commercial vehicles. Vehicles can be purchased used in the states of California and Northeast, because the rules apply only to new vehicles.

This machine is also used in most Mercedes-Benz vehicles: C-Class, CLS, E-Class, S-Class, ML-Class, GLK Class, GL-Class, G-Class, R-Class, Vito/Viano, and Dodge/Freightliner/Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
