The Ford S-Max (styled as Ford S-MAX ) is an MPV produced by Ford Europe for the European market. Ford also described S-Max as SAV. Introduced at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, S-Max went on sale with the new generation Galaxy in June 2006.
It's meant to be sporty like a sedan, and spacious like an MPV. It shows the inspiration of the Galaxy MPV seven large seats, and the compact Ford C-Max MPV. S-Max has received many positive reviews and awards, and was selected as the 2007 European Car on November 13, 2006. Ford has plans to sell S-Max in Japan under the Mazda subsidiary brand, but they are no longer viable since the last split.

Features
S-Max is the first vehicle in the Ford line to showcase their Kinetic Design styling. The Kinetic Design Scheme includes angled headlamps, twin trapezoidal gratings, and a large windmill.
Equipped with heated windshield and rear, parking sensors, aux input and double climate control as standard. One of S-Max's main selling points is the "Flat Fold System". This design allows the second and third row seats to fold smoothly onto the floor, leaving extra storage space.

First generation (2006-2015)
Model
For the English-speaking market there are three derivatives of S-Max: Edge, Zetec, and Titanium high-end. Ford has stated that about sixty percent of all S-Max buyers choose Titanium specifications. Continental trim levels are Trend, Titanium and upper Titanium S line.
In March 2008, a strong 2,220 r2 diesel common-rail PS TDCi was added to the Titanium series and provided acceleration from 0-60 mph in 9.0 seconds. In September 2008, the popular TDCi 2.040 PS manual engine was offered with CO 2 159 g/km. Trend S-Max debuted in China in 2010. This trend is basically a normal S-Max, but without rear row seats. The idea is to make it cheaper, and give more storage space for people who might want it.

Powertrain
All S-Maxes use the Ford Duratorq engine version or the Duratec Ford engine. The S-Max uses a five-speed or six-speed manual transmission, and a six-speed automatic option.

The Ford S-Max does not incorporate breakthrough security features, but has received a rating of 5 stars/36 points (Best in Class) from Euro NCAP.
S-Max security features include Intelligent Protection System (IPS) that combines optimized body structure for power and crashworthiness with curbing equipment and drivers that help avoid accidents and features that reduce the chance of injury in impact. The high-performance version of Ford S-Max has been featured on Top Gear (Series 8, Episode 7) against similar specs Vauxhall Zafira and Mercedes B200. S-Max is the cheapest, but is described as having the best interior and exterior, and being the most comfortable. The presenters, James May and Richard Hammond, also regarded it as the most practical. Overall, they praised the car and declared it the best value for money from all three. The second generation was first presented at the Paris Motor Show 2014.
After his sibling, Ford Galaxy, exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show 2015, Ford decided to start producing by the end of 2015.
It comes with the same engine as Galaxy, Mondeo and Edge, which consists of one diesel (in four states tune) and two petrol. The 1.5 SCTi Ecoboost has 160 hp, and 2.0 SCTi has 240 hp, but can only be mated with Ford's Powershift Gearbox. All diesel engines average above 50mpg - the best is 2.0 TDCi Duratorq 120, which produces 57mpg.
Both the 2.0 TDCi 150 and 180 versions come with either a six-speed manual or Powershift, the latter can also be specified with AWD. Last model, Bi-Turbo 2.0 TDCi 210 comes with Powershift Gearbox only, and reach 0 to 60 in less than nine seconds. The trim levels are no stranger to Ford, and the mirrors found in Galaxy, Mondeo and Edge, including Zetec, Titanium and Titanium Sport are also Vignale ex executives available.
