The Audi A6 is an executive car made by German car Audi, now in its fifth generation. As the successor to the Audi 100, the A6 is manufactured in Neckarsulm, Germany - and is available in a sedan and wagon configuration, the latter being marketed by Audi as Avant. Internal numbering Audi treats A6 as a continuation of the Audi 100 line, with the initial A6 set as a member of the C4 series, followed by C5, C6, C7 and C8. The associated Audi A7 is basically a sportback (fastback) version of the C7 series and the A6 C8 series, but is marketed with a separate identity and model.
All generations of the A6 have offered front-wheel drive or Torsen-based four-wheel drive - marketed by Audi as their quattro system. The second and third generation A6 models have shared their platform with the company's Allroad model.
A6 petrol and diesel versions are provided. Various engines make a power unit with a capacity of 150 to 333 horsepower. It is a 4-cylinder inline 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and a stronger 3-liter unit in a V6 configuration with a mechanical compressor.

C4 ( Type 4A, 1994-1997)
Audi's previous executive car was named Audi 100 (or Audi 5000 in the United States), and was released in three consecutive generations (Audi C1, Audi C2 and Audi C3). In 1994, the latest generation (C4) Audi 100 received a facelift and changed its name to Audi A6 , to fit the new Audi alphanumeric nomenclature (because full-size A8 was just introduced). The exterior just changed slightly from the "C4" Audi 100 - new headlamps and rear, new radiator grille, same with chassis and engine as well as transmission options. The United Kingdom is the first market to receive the A6, as the Audi 100 RHD stock has been exhausted before it is expected, and before the rest from mainland Europe.
New engines for the A6 are 1.8-liter 20v inline four-cylinder, 2.0-liter 8v inline four-cylinder, 2.6 liter 12V V6 and 2.8-liter gasoline engine 30 v6 V6, with five inline 2.3 liter engine dropped on most markets. For diesel engines, an inline four 1.9 Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI), and inline five (R5) 2.5 TDI (103 kilowatts (140Ã, PS; 138Ã,bhp)) are available.
Until 1997, the A6 came with several different engines, two of which were turbodiesel, and most of them were available with Audi Torsen's quattro permanent four wheel drive system. A6 is available with sedan and Avant body.
C4 engine
The C4 design is available with the following machines:
S6
After introducing the C4 A6 series, Audi made a small revision to what was previously known as the Audi S4, changing its name to Audi S6 ; the S4 name will eventually be reused for a completely different model derived from the smaller Audi Volkswagen Group B based Audi A4 platform. Since this is the first S6 model from Audi, this is usually referred to as Ur-S6 , derived from German augmentive, " Ur sprÃÆ'ünglich" (meaning: original). It is available both as a sedan/sedan ( typ 4A5), and "Avant" ( typ 4A9) (estate/wagon) for customers in Europe and the United States, but only as sedans in Canada, Asia and Australia.
Since its launch in late 1994, the Audi S6 is powered by 2,226 cubic centimeters (135.8 cuà © in) inline five-cylinder turbocharged inline engine (034 passcode identification code: AAN) with Bosch Motronic (ECU) engine control unit , generating output power of 169 kilowatts (230 PS at 227 bpd) at 5,900 revolutions per minute (rpm), and 326 newton meters (240 lbf? ft) of about 1,950 rpm, while consuming high octane. Super Plus "98RON unleaded gasoline engine powered the S6 with a top speed of 235 kilometers per hour (146.0 mph), and 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 6.7 seconds; 160 km/h (99.4 mph) was achieved in 17.5 seconds, available with a standard six-speed manual transmission (only five speeds in North America), and Audi Torsen T-1 quattro permanent four-wheel drive system.
Audi makes a high capacity 4.2 liter V8 engine (prefix code: 077, identification code: AEC) with Bosch KE-Motronic ECU available as an option in the original European S4, and makes the decision to continue to do so with S6, making a 213 kilowatt (290Ã , PS; 286Ã, bhp) of 4.2 available as an optional upgrade on a 2.2-liter five-cylinder turbo line. Unlike the turbocharged five-cylinder version, the V8-powered S6 is supplied with a four-speed automatic transmission as standard, but retains the quattro four wheel drive. The six-speed manual gearbox is also available as an option.
Audi S6 PLUS
As a goose track to the C4 platform, a more powerful and very limited production Audi S6 PLUS is available for European customers. S6 PLUS, developed by Audi's high-performance subsidiary, quattro GmbH , is available for sale only during 1997 (production from June 1996 to October 1997). A total of 952 cars were produced-855 Avant, and 97 saloons.
This is supported by another version of the 32-valve (four valve per cylinder) 4.2 liter V8 engine (prefix code component: 077, identification code: AHK, then will be seen on Audi S8 as AKH). Audi's performance division reworked the main parts of the engine, increasing the motive power to 240 kilowatts (326 PS; 322 bhp). It is only available with a revised six-speed manual transmission (component code prefix: 01E, identification code: DGU) (gear ratio - 1: 3,500, 2: 1,889, 3: 1,320, 4: 1,034, 5: 0.857, 6: 0.730) with a final ratio of 4,111 drives.
Further revisions are made on suspensions, brakes and wheels. The front brake brake is enlarged to 323 millimeters (12.7 inches) with a thickness of 30 mm (1.18 inches). The standard 8Jx17 "Avus" cast cast aluminum alloy wheels, with optional 7Jx16 alloy wheels for use with winter tires are also available.
With so much power on tap, the S6 Plus saloon can reach 100 kilometers per hour (62.1 mph) from a stop in 5.6 seconds, with Avant a tenth of a second slower at 5.7 seconds.

C5 ( Ketik 4B, 1997-2004)
In February 1997, the introduction of the new A6 ( Typ 4B ), based on the new design platform car - the Volkswagen Group C5 platform, with its new line of machines was announced and appeared in March at 1997 Geneva Motor Show. The new A6 improves quality, and is marketed in the same category as the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The redesigned body features a modern design, with fastback styling setting the trend for the Audi lineup, and provides a relatively large aerodynamic saloon with a low drag coefficient of 0.28.
In 2000 and 2001, "C5" A6 was on the list of Top Ten Car and Driver Magazines. The new A6 is available with a variety of engines and configurations. The 2.4 and 2.8 liter V6 30-valve engines represent most of the A6 development programs, with many other engine configurations available around the world. As an alternative to manual transmission, a five-speed tiptronic automatic transmission is also available.
The C5 saloon variant arrived in mid-1997 in Europe, late 1997 in North America and Australia, and Avant in 1998. In Canada, there was no Avant (Audi's name for estate/wagons) available in 1998 - Audi dropped C4 Avant at the end year model 1997, and jumped directly to C5 Avant in 1998 along with its US launch. As a result of compliance with FMVSS, North American models are equipped with front and rear bumpers that stand out a few inches farther than their European counterparts, with modified brackets and bumper suspension assemblies as a result, and child seats tied to passenger safety. In accordance with Canadian law, Canadian models accept daytime lights as standard equipment. The North American C5 A6 model receives 2.8 liters, a 30 valve V6 engine, a 2.7 liter b6 "biturbo" (also found on the S5 B5 platform, 250 PS (180 kW, 250 hp)), and 4.2 liters V8 petrol engine 40 -upup (300 PS (220 kW; 300 hp)); two higher specifications. The engine is only offered with quattro permanent four-wheel drive. The V8 models come with significantly altered exterior body panels, with slightly wider wheel arches (fenders), revised headlights and grille designs (before being introduced in 2002 to all other A6 models), larger wheels (8Jx17- inch), larger brakes and a permanent Quattro four-wheel drive based on Torsen as standard.
In 2002, the A6 received a facelift, with revised headlight and grille designs, an open exhaust tip, and minor alterations on accessory body moldings, and light tail colors from red to amber in North American models. A number of new engines were also introduced. The 1.8-liter engine was removed and replaced with a 2.0-liter engine with 96 kilowatts (131 PS; 129 bhp). The 1.9-liter Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) is tuned to produce a maximum motive power output of 96 kilowatts (131 PS; 129 bph), and 310 newton meters (229 lbf? Ft) of torque, receiving a six-speed manual gearbox. in the process. The 2.4-liter V6 gets an additional 5 hp and better balancing, and the 2.8 liter V6 engine is replaced with a 3.0 liter engine with 162 kilowatts (220 PS; 217 bhp). The revised 2.7 liter turbocharged, producing 184 kilowatts (250 PS, 247 bhp) and 330 newton meters (243 lbf? Ft), is controlled by standard quattro. The V6 diesel is also slightly modified to produce 120 kilowatts (163 PS, 161 bhp) (after the second modification) and 350 newton meters (258 lbf? Ft). The new stronger diesel V6 was also introduced with 132 kilowatts (179 PS, 177 bhp) and 370 newton meters (273 lbf? Ft). The 4.2 liter V8 engine that arrived in 2001 remains unchanged.
Also new is multitronic continuously variable transmission, available in most of the front-wheel drive models. All models, except 2.0 liter petrol and 1.9 liter TDI, are available with four wheel drive system Audi, quattro. The Avant version with 4-wheel-drive, with improved ground clearance and slightly altered styling is sold as quattro allroad Audi, Audi's first crossover SUV.
The second generation A6 was on the Top Ten list for Car and Driver magazine for 2000 and 2001. The updated A6 2005 won the World Car of the Year award for 2005. In addition the third-generation A6 3.0T facelifted won two Cars and Driver "comparos" that pitted it with other sedans like the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Jaguar XF, and Infinti M.
S6 and RS6
The Audi S6 is a high-powered variant of the A6, featuring a modified version of the 4.2 liter V8 engine that produces 250 kilowatts (340 PS, 335 bhp) and 420 newton meters (310 lbf? Ft). It is available as a saloon and Avant although the Avant version is the only one sold in North America.
In the final years of the A6 C5 design, the high performance Audi RS6 models are featured. Weighing over 1,840 kilograms (4.057 lb) and generating 331 kilowatts (450 PS, 444 bhp) and 560 newton meters (413 lbf? Ft), the RS6 is capable of 0-100 kph (62.1 mph) at 4 , 5 seconds, and up to 200 km/h (124.3 mph) below 17 seconds. Originally available only as Avant, saloon variant was then added; the saloon version becomes the only version available for the North American market. The RS6 saloon was first completed in May 2003 Car and Driver tests comparison against BMW M5 (E39), Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG (W210), and Jaguar S-Type R. ".
allroad quattro (1999-2005)
The Audi A6 Avant C5 series formed the basis for the semi-offroad model in 1999, labeled "Audi allroad quattro". Compared to the usual A6, the allroad features an advanced air suspension system, enabling increased ground clearance; bigger wheels with all-terrain tires, and blazing and unpainted bumpers, giving different looks and more thorough flexibility across multiple terrains. As said by the name "allroad quattro", Audi Torsen's quattro permanent four-wheel drive system is standard equipment for all versions.
Adjustable standard air suspension system can lift a car high enough to provide ground clearance of 208 mm (8 in); low-range mode (option with manual transmission), absent from other vehicles equipped with quattro, can be selected with the touch of a button. When used together, the two systems allow for the allroad to complete the official Land Rover test course, by far the only car-based SUV that has been proven capable of doing so in testing. In contrast, air suspension can lower the vehicle to just 142 mm (6 inches) above the road surface, simultaneously increasing the spring and damper levels to provide a sporty driving experience, like a conventional A6 car with sport suspension.
The V6 twin-turbo A6 V6 V6 V6 engine with 250 PS (184 kW; 247 hp) and peak torque of 350 N m (258 üm) is available initially, in addition to the 2.5 liter TDI diesel unit with 132Ã, kW (177Ã, hp ) and 370Ã, N? M (273Ã, lb? Ft) of torque. The company's 4.2 liter V8 gasoline engine variant, made available in 2003, and a less powerful TDI (163 bpd) followed in 2004.
Audi stopped allroad production in July 2005. Although this model continues to be available for sale throughout 2006 in Europe, there is no 2006 model for North America.
With the return of the "allroad" nameplate to North America, in the quattro allroad A4 2012, the quattro allroad C5-Platform has begun to take the name "Ur-allroad." The 'Ur-' is used in German, as a prefix to signify 'ancient' or 'ancestral ancestor' (eg, great-grandmother UrgroÃÆ'à ¸mutter), and used informally by car enthusiasts around the world to refer to native Audi Quattro produced from 1980 - 1991 ("Ur-Quattro"). The use of this term is then extended to the original S4 and S6 models to distinguish it from the next model of the same name; and more recently for the allroad C5 model ("Ur-allroad"). The need to differentiate the model is evident as the new allroad B8 A4 does not have an altitude/load suspension adjusted for C5 shock rate adjustments for uni-body loading and reinforcing, sporting only nominal pulling capacity, and no A4 non-allroad carrier peer. Some people feel that for this reason it does not fit the allroad nameplate and is nothing more than an A4 cart with a trim package.
In Europe, Audi offers quattro allroad A6 as well as quattro allroad A4. It is unclear why the quattro allroad A6 is discontinued for the North American market.
C5 engine
The C5 design is available with the following machines:
C6 ( Type 4F, 2004-2011)
Initial release
The Typ 4F A6 was released in 2004. Designed by Satoshi Wada in 2001, this model is visually an evolution of the C5, but extended to 4,927 millimeters (194.0 in), and has a new "single-frame grille" Audi. Like other contemporary Auditions, the A6 has a "tornado line" that flows from the headlights to the taillights just below the shoulders of the body.
Iteration C6 from A6 has more advanced technology. The most famous is the Multi Media Interface (MMI), which is a system that controls in-car entertainment, satellite navigation, climate control, car settings such as suspension configuration and optional electronic accessories through a central display interface. It has the advantage of minimizing the richness of buttons normally found on dashboards by replacing them with controls that operate multiple devices using the integrated view.
On the machine, direct injection technology Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI) was introduced. Although the machine line represents the same development as the previous model, all machines are new. Multitronic variable transmissions continue as an alternative to the front-wheel drive model, in addition to the new six-speed automatic tiptronic transmission available in four-wheel drive models. Audi "trademark" Torsen quattro-based permanent four-wheel drive is available in most of the lineup, and is standard in most powerful models. quattro is not available on multitronic variant A6, but available on manual and tiptronic gear systems. Instead the tiptronic system is not available on the front wheel drive variant of the car. The six-speed manual gearbox is available with a 3.2-liter V6 engine, but not for the North American market.
The Avant has been previewed by the Audi Avantissimo concept in 2001 and arrived during 2005. Allroad quattro A6 debuted in 2006, and as before, is a Avant version available off the road, available with 2.7-liter V6 or 3.0 -liter V6 Turbocharged Direct Injection diesel engine, or 3.2 liter V8 engine or 4.2 liter V8.
A6L (2005 -)
This is a long wheelbase version of the A6 sedan for the Chinese market. The vehicle was unveiled in 2005 at the Shanghai Motor Show.
Vehicles went on sale in mid-2005. Early models including A6L 2.4, with A6L 2.0 TFSI (170PS) followed shortly thereafter. A6L 3.0 quattro (218PS) and A6L 4.2 quattro (335PS) were introduced in 2005. Other models include A6 3.0.
S6
The Audi S6 performance variant was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and was produced from early 2006 to 2011. Supported by a 5.2 liter F10 V6 Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI) engine that produces 320 kilowatts (435 PS; 429 bhp) and 540 newton meters (398 lbf? Ft ). S6 reaches 100 kilometers per hour (62.1 mph) from a stationary position in 5.2 seconds, and a quarter of a mile 13.5 seconds. A6 allroad quattro (2006-2011)
Audi announced the C6 allroad series in spring 2005 and released it in the summer of 2006. This model is called Audi A6 allroad quattro (unlike previous versions, called Audi allroad quattro , without reference to the A6 nomenclature).
Audi A6 allroad quattro returns featuring adaptive air suspension and quattro four-wheel drive system permanently. Allroad A6 is powered by a choice of two Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI), 3.2-liter V6 and 4.2-liter V8 petrol engines, and two TDI diesel engines, 180 PS (132 kW) 2.7 L and 225 PS (233 only in the US) (162 kW) 3.0Ã, L. The tiptronic gearbox is standard on 4.2 V8 and 2.7 TDI, but optional on 3.2 FSI and 3.0 TDI.
The 6-speed tiptronic transmission system converts high torque engine power into sporty performance and comfortable operation, with fast and fast gear changes. The cutting-edge electronics respond efficiently to all driver inputs in both D (Drive) and S (Sport) programs, helping to prevent unwanted shifts during cornering. The five-mode air suspension can be raised up to 60 mm (2.36 inches) to provide better ground clearance of 185 mm (7.28 inches) than the older four modes.
The car features a number of off-road style cues including larger bumpers and frames.
In some European markets, the allroad quattro A6 is more expensive than the larger Audi Q7, but air suspension is an expensive option in Q7. In its home country, Germany, it costs several hundred Euros less than Q7.
Machine
Awards
In 2005, the A6 won the World Car of the Year award, and has also won the "Towcast of the Year" award, due to its sequence features such as adjustable suspension and damping, and the presence of the 123 Trail Stability Program.
facelift C6
Audi launched the Audi A6 "C6" facelift on August 12, 2008, at the Moscow International Motor Show. Refresher combines several modern design cues to keep Audi current Audi with the rest of the Audi range.
There are minor changes to the front and rear lights that now have LEDs running during the day, taillights extending into the center of the trunk lid and pinching on the number plates, but the shape remains rectangular compared to the more sculpted clusters of light found. at Audi A5 2008, Audi A4 2008, and Audi Q5 2009 (the last three are all-new generation).
The intake under the headlights is inspired by the Audi RS5. A6's six (per side) front-day light-emitting diode (LED) daytime running lights (DRL) are housed within the main housing headlamp, similar to the placement of RS6 from LEDs (ten per side), while on this S6 LED front (five per side) found adjacent to the fog lights in the lower front bumper.
New front and rear fascia from RS6 will be used on the A6 and S6 facelifted lineup.
Also updated for 2009 is the Quattro all-wheel drive arrangement, which has been found on Audi A5 2008 and Audi A4 2008. The new system has a 40/60 front-to-rear torque split and offers a more balanced feel, reducing understeer originating of the 50/50 AWD platform.
There are now six petrol and four diesels available for the upgraded A6. All gasoline engines now have Direct-Fuel-Stratified Injection (FSI) cylinder technology, and all diesel engines now have common rail (CR) and Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) technology. There is a new gasoline engine, 300-PS (221Ã, kW; 296Ã, bhp) 3.0-liter V6 supercharged, labeled 3.0 TFSI or 3.0T. The new engine is shared with the 2010 Audi S4 and S5 Cabriolet, though in the last two apps in a higher state of the song and mated to a 7-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission.
The new engine and the revised quattro system give the Audi A6 3.0 TFSI 2009 almost the same performance with the Audi S6 5.2 FSI (which is unchanged except receiving cosmetic tweaks like the rest of the Audi A6 lineup). In addition, the weight of S6 is 4,500 pounds and 59 percent of the weight is distributed forward which improves the understeer.
The US model went on sale as a model vehicle in 2009, and arrived at US dealerships in early January. Early models include the A6 3.2 FSI (sedan), A6 3.0 TFSI quattro (sedan/Avant), A6 4.2 FSI quattro (sedan), S6 5.2 FSI (sedan).
RS6 (2008-2010)
The latest version of the ultra-high performance Audi RS6 was launched in September 2008 and was produced until the third quarter of 2010. Based on the V6 engine that powered the S6, the RS6 has an all-aluminum alloy of 4,991 cc (304.6 cuÃ, in) V10 twin-turbocharged, Fuel Stratified Injection engine with dry sump lubrication system. It generates a power output of 426 kilowatts (579 PS; 571 bhp), and 650 newton meters (479 lbf? Ft) of torque, making it the most powerful vehicle ever produced by Audi at the time. It has now been surpassed by the Audi R8.
Originally available only as Avant, the saloon version went on sale in mid-October 2008.
A6L
A6L is a longer wheelbase version of the A6 sedan for the Chinese market. The vehicle was unveiled at Shanghai Auto 2009. The initial model included a 2.7 TDI powerplant (189PS).

C7 ( Typ 4G, 2012-2018)
Initial release
The fourth generation C7 Audi A6 series (internally designated Typ 4G ) was launched in early 2011 for the European market and in other markets soon after. It is strongly influenced by the Audi A8 (D4), drawing elements from its exterior details. The A6 shares an interior, platform, and powertrain (Longitudinal Modular Platform) with a four-door sedan Audi A7, which has been released not too long ago in 2011. Compared with the A8 and A7, the A6 has the most aggressive front fascia and LED headlamps (headlights full optional LED). Design work began in 2006, with the exterior design of Jurgen Loffler selected in 2008.
The new A6 enhances its wheelbase by nearly 3 inches (76 mm) and its width is 2.7 inches (69 mm). The redesign also lowers the car drag coefficient to 0.25.
The European engine options for the C7 include two petrol engines - 2.8 liter FSI V6 with 204 horsepower (152 kW) and 300 horsepower (224 kW), a supercharged FSI 3.0 liter engine - and three diesel engines - 2.0 liters in four cylinder and a 3.0 liter turbocharged diesel engine in three aligned conditions. For North America, the Audi A6 3.0 TFSI quattro will be powered by a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine that emits 310 PS (228 kW; 306 hp) 325 pounds (441 N), the same engine brought from before. -generation A6 3.0 TFSI, but in a higher state aligned and mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. For the United States but not the Canadian market, there will be an entry-level Audi A6 2.0 TFSI FrontTrak (front-wheel drive) with a 2.0 liter turbocharged inline-four engine, the same engine in the Audi A4 and Q5 but mated to CVT Multitronic continuous variables).
The 2012 model A6 displays all the rider assistance systems of the A8, plus adds automotive head-up display, active lane assistance. The LED headlamps are full of high-automatic automatic floodlight or Audi (Xenon) adaptive lamps with variable range controls.
C7 facelift (2015-present)
Audi launches a mid-life facelift C7 2015 at the Paris Motor Show 2014. Refreshes include styling tweaks for car exteriors, engine lineup, transmission and MMI infotainment systems with faster Tegra 3 processors, handwriting recognition, Audi connects Telematics with state of the art 4G mobile internet (and online updates for map navigation), and sophisticated Matrix LED headlights.
The three TFSI 1.8tfsi and five TDI engines now meet Euro 6 emission standards. The new Ultra TDI model now comes with glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) springs and both ultra models now come with S-tronic (dual clutch) transmissions.
Hybrid electric variants are also available for the first time on the A6, offering a 2-liter TFSI 211 horsepower (155-kW) engine combined with a 45 PS (33 kW) electric motor. Power is supplied through a 1.3kWh lithium-ion battery, with an electric range of only 3 km for a constant driving of 60 km/h (37.28 mph) and a top speed of 100 km/h (62.14 mph).
The launch of the A6 Hybrid market is scheduled for 2012. However, production of the US model is pending.
A6 allroad quattro (2012-present)
The 2013 A6 allroad quattro was launched at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, along with RS4 Avant 2012. Sales begin in 2012. The first UK shipment arrives in July 2012.
The allroad model contains some unique features. Audi designed more than 1,100 new parts unique to the allroad, making it different from the standard A6 and making it a true multipurpose vehicle. Most obviously, the allroad receives a bumper and a special flare fender, giving it an aggressive offroad appearance. Flare bumpers and fenders have a strong finish layer, in contrast to other body parts. The roof receives this same layer, as well as four elongated ribs to increase strength. Unique bumpers also have integrated aluminum skid plates. The Allroad has a larger diameter tire than the standard A6 to improve offroad capability. Redesigned headlamps, larger rearview mirrors, and a lack of unique "gashes" doors for the allroad.
Allroad equipped standard with air suspension system can lift a car high enough to provide 208 mm (8 inch) ground clearance; low-range mode (option with manual transmission), absent from other vehicles equipped with quattro, can be selected with the touch of a button.
The German model goes on sale in spring 2012. Early models include 3.0 TFSI quattro (310PS), 3.0 TDI quattro (204PS), 3.0 TDI quattro (245PS), 3.0 TDI quattro (313PS).
